can you use robocopy (E: is Cd from D: is USB 8tb) E:\Karaoke CD (02) D:\Karaoke CD Part (02) to copy cd to USB? It's not working and tells me files cant be found.

Does copying one file from your CD to anywhere on your computer works? If not then there's probably some copy protection software built into the CD.

Thank you. I’ve been using this successfully for years to back up over a vpn. But I’m no expert and have a question. Suppose in your temp folder that you copied in this example there were 5 other folders,(test 1, test 2, test 3, test 4, and test 5 ) but you wanted to copy only 2 (and the other 3 were so large it wouldn’t work copying the entire temp folder). How would you do that? Could you put a comma between folders and do both in one command? Or would you need two separate commands? I made a batch file that runs through the task scheduler so I’m not sure exactly how to do it easily without 3 separate batch files each copying a different folder each starting nightly at a different time. Does my question make sense? Thank you if you have any suggestions

Within Robocopy you should be able to use the /XD flag to exclude folders. Something like /XD "C:\Temp\test3" /XD "C:\Temp\test4". I'll give this a try in my test environment and will make a follow up video for you

@@seansimztech thanks so very much. I really appreciate it. I’m up to my eyeballs in computers right now. I’m a dentist and I have a network of ten workstations and one server and was basically forced to upgrade my software. Nightmare. Juggling 2 different X-ray server machines, and permissions, and my vpn being blocked by windows defender,……. Def bit off more than I can chew. Wanted a pro to do the job but couldn’t find anyone. Anyone who does this type of stuff gets my greatest respect. Hours on end sometimes for nothing. Thanks again for responding.

Glad to hear I helped in some way. What other areas did you need technical help with? When it comes to permissions are you talking about file permissions? I can make some more videos that should be helpful for you

@@seansimztechyes, file and folder permissions for certain users, groups etc. that kind of stuff is very hard to teach yourself because there isn’t a lot of information on how to do it. For example- what’s an “authenticated user” as far as a network goes? Let’s,say there is 1 server 1 workstation network. (The server is also a workstation). So Joe has an a user account on the server . Mary has a user account on the workstation and so does Michelle. If there is a shared folder on the server, how do you give all 3 permission to access that folder? Must you name each persons account on the shared folder? Is it enough to say “administrators” (assuming all are)? What about if you said “users” and “everyone”. The guys that initially set up our network used the same name (“office”) for the user account on every computer. I assume that’s so there is only one user (office) to give permission to? But is user office the same no matter which computer it comes from? Like in a network of 10 machines and each has an office account? That kind of stuff. Everything out there really assumes people understand that. Thanks for reading and thanks for responding. Hey Sean, I have a simple question that I'm having trouble getting the answer to, and I was hoping you might be able to help me. I have an 8TB external hard full of nothing but photos, call it drive G, and I'd like to mirror that to another 8TB external hard drive, call it drive H, as just a back up. It's just pictures, no programs or anything, but I'd like all the file names and dates accessed, etc to remain exact. A pure duplicate. Can you show me how to construct that command line? Something like robocopy G H \MIR?

Hi Andrew thanks for the comment. yeah that would be the command, however you will need to be careful with the \MIR command. If you accidently delete any items on the G drive then those changes will also be made on the H drive and you could lose your files.
