In this video, I am going to show you how to successfully transfer recorded video from the iPhone 12 Pro (including the Pro Max) to your iOS device (includes Macintosh) using AirDrop so the HDR metadata is preserved.
Prerequisites:
Apple iPhones & iPads That Support 4k & HDR...
----Must be on iOS 14.1 or later
----iPhone 8 and later can play HDR and Dolby Vision content
----iPhone X and later can record and produce Dolby Vision HDR natively
----iPad Pro 11 and 12.9-inch (3rd gen) can play HDR and Dolby Vision content. In addition, HDR or Dolby Vision content can be played to a compatible connected display/TV.
You will want to use max brightness, turn off True Tone display, and auto brightness for the best viewing experience - though HDR metadata should signal to the display to automatically adjust these parameters if your HDR is encoded properly.
Mac models that support HDR...
----Must be on macOS Catalina or later
----MacBook Pro introduced in 2018 or later
----MacBook Air introduced in 2018 or later
----iMac introduced in 2020 and iMac Pro
----Mac mini introduced in 2018 or later
----Mac Pro introduced in 2019
All models above, except the MacBook Air support HDR on an external compatible displays via DisplayPort or HDMI. The models with built-in displays support HDR.
