Thanks for sharing. What a great idea upycling this item - you're right - houses don't need those units anymore. So transforming it and keeping the details was a great idea.

So awesome. Each aspect creates a mood/attitude on its own. I love the grey washed top and all the blue tones. Most repurposed items end up looking like a slightly altered version of the original. This piece was entirely re-purposed, creating a whole new and beautiful piece of furniture. Thank you!!!

I just love you guys not only do you have great ideas but you don't take ages showing us how to do it. And I really love that you love a short cut ! When I first started chalk painting I felt so guilty that I wasn't doing it the way that so many people were doing it on web sites and blogs... but you made me realise its the end product that counts ! You are so creative Jamie and your son is gorgeous... I just wish I had a husband like yours ... meaning he knows his stuff haha Take care and keep doing what your doing we love it Jayne :)

There really are no hard and fast rules to painting furniture, some things do work better but if the end result looks good....it’s all okay! Also, our middle daughter is Eliza Jayne, named after Zeb’s aunt. Not often we see this spelling. 👍❤️

I would still give them a light sanding if they are super shiny. When I say light sanding I mean, rough up the surface a little with some 120 grit and then paint. If you sand more than 10 minutes you've sanded longer than I would!

Hi Jamie! You and your husband are the perfect team. You guys work wonderfully together. And you son is so cute. I love all of your projects. I noticed that you apply white was then apply polycrylic, is that possible? I hate applying poly or polyurethane but some pieces actually need that strong protection.

Can milk paint stick to about a 15 year old wood cedar entertainment center that was probably cleaned with cleansers, polishes or pledge in it's lifetime? The top looks just like yours. I just don't know what oils may be in the wood so the entire paint job may fall right off, bond or not. It's a rough cedar I've been dying to paint.
@JamiRayVintage6 жыл бұрын
It can stick to that. I would clean it really well with a degreasing dish soap or TSP.

I have to say, I love this colour and blending. I have just purchased Miss Mustard seed to do do a very aged rustic worn/chippy effect. I found the Annie Sloan would not give the look I wanted.

Rogena Styles I haven't used Miss mustard seed but I heard it is similar to the sweet pickins I use and sell :)

Jami Ray Vintage not years of that one either. The one you mentioned earlier appears to be sold in US but can’t find stockists in UK. I shall have a play with the Miss Mustard seed over the weekend.

Are the minwax stains you use on the wood on top of ur projects water based??
@JamiRayVintage6 жыл бұрын
The minwax stains we use are oil based. We’ve gone to mostly using the Real Stain that we carry in our website. The Real Stain is water based.
@jenniferhargrove52806 жыл бұрын
Jami Ray Vintage so if the stain is oil based are we still sealing in polyacrylic?

I tried spraying chalk paint and it blocked my sprayer and overheated it. This was with Annie Sloan. What chalk product do you use that’s sprayable.
@JamiRayVintage7 жыл бұрын
Rogena Styles I use fairy chalk mother and diy paint. Look up our video on how to spray chalk paint. The key is to strain it and thin it out. Also the sprayer makes a difference. We use an hvlp sprayer from harbor freight and an air compressor
@rogenastyles96257 жыл бұрын
Jami Ray Vintage thanks for the super fast reply. I only have an electric sprayer but will check out the video. Never heard of those paints either but I’m in the UK. Thank you.
@JamiRayVintage7 жыл бұрын
Rogena Styles gotcha. I have had friends use the home right sprayer with chalk paint. Be sure to strain well and play with different amounts of water. All chalk paint is different but getting rid of the clumps and thinning it will always help. Just be careful not to thin so much it gets drippy. Annie Sloan can be hard, the one time I sprayed it, it was so thick then it was too thin lol
@anat63957 жыл бұрын
How many layers of the polyacrylic did you use. I just used some on a dresser and as I’m researching on KZbin people sand the layers down and add some more layers. I’m not sure if the sanding down will chip off my paint too much
@JamiRayVintage7 жыл бұрын
Ana T it really just depends on the look you want. Most people on KZbin will use polycrylic to get a high sheen on their piece, hence the buffing and leveling in between coats. We typically do 3-5 coats depending on if the piece is a high traffic/use like a table or kitchen cabinets. We do buff the last coat with 400 grit quite often but that’s because we are going for a matte farmhouse finish.

I see you used a spackle type filler on this project but sometimes on your other projects you use Bondo. How do you decide? And with small screw hours you use a wood filler. So many choices.. AGH!!
@JamiRayVintage7 жыл бұрын
Brian Morrison sometimes it’s just what we have close or on hand. If it’s a small hole the spackle and the wood filler work great. If it’s an area that’s going to be stained we always use a stainable wool filler. If it’s a large area that needs to have a strong bond we use the all purpose bondo. Zeb likes to use bondo on Furniture legs and places he may have to add a screw for stability.

Could you please be more short in talking telling just important elements, such as color used and means and that's all' instead of talking so much? The outcomei gorgeous but the video is too long and talked.
@JamiRayVintage7 жыл бұрын
Most of our videos are over 10 minutes long because we show the full detail of what we do and how we do it. We usually just talk as we show those steps. You could always speed the video up in KZbin settings and watch a 10 minute video in 5 minutes. 👍 Thanks for watching!
