Hook serve is problematic. Since so much of the motion is hidden behind the body, it's very difficult to rule if the contact point is too, and it depends on the position of the receiver. ITTF remains oblivious to this evolution though.

I have a question :) I have often difficulties returning this serve because many of the opponents do not show the contact with the ball. I can see that you contact the ball behind you body, is you serve legal ?

The opponent must be able to see the ball the entire time during the serve. (During the serve the ball must always be visible to the opponent)

Most of the time throwing the ball in this way behind the chest is Illegal but often allowed in game play. Also you have to throw the ball vertically and not towards you. Sorry, master.

Only the contact point isn't allowed to be hidden. Before the contact you can hide what you want.. Tossing vertical ist only theory.. Almost no one tosses really vertical..hitting point is due to the body positioning when forehand serving behind the tossing position.. Different from the backhand serve.. Almost or half vertical ist enough

@@zizo015 it's there for so many years... From the time server toss the ball till the racket contact, receiver should see this ball.. Also it should be vertical( almost ) . The serve coach is showing not legal ...
