Welcome to Auridon (Ep 2)! This is a 'lightly’ modded Cities Skylines series, although I do use a ton of mods the series will use mostly Vanilla (+DLC) game assets with only a handful of extras from the workshop. The focus of this build is on making a detailed city, with functional mass transit, including all DLC and content creator packs. 2022 ready!
Episode 2 focuses on how to make your generic industry area look good, using mostly vanilla assets and a lot of detailing to completely transform mass zoned industry into something that looks more realistic. We also tidy up the forestry area, extend our road network for future planning and create a small detailed city park district.
This is my first Cities: Skylines let's play series for KZbin, and I know there's lots of work to do so please bear with me!

I've taken massive inspiration for this build, and to start my channel, from the Cities: Skylines greats such as Biffa, Imperatur and City Planner Plays (among many many others i would add!!) but above all from the amazing OverchargedEgg and in particular his Palaven series which has heavily inspired this city. You can check that out here:

And yes, if you've made it this far and was wondering... I am an Elder Scrolls fan :)

In my opinion, you can use that clear space near the industry as a transit hub once you start working on it. You've established two industries in the same area, so a bus depot and a metro station (or assets that combine them) could be used there with some small commmercial like cafes or paperwork-related stuff that I think would be useful for the workers. Amazing video btw and I LOVE the detailing! Looking forward to more videos!

I realize I'm a bit late but I loved this episode. It's nice to see someone use the same brick factories and small office buildings as I use in my industrial areas. I play on console though so it normally takes about a week to generate the right buildings and car parks in the right places. Yours looks a lot better with surface painter and all the props!

Holy crops, I've got less ideas than were realized in this particular episode, so... nothing to drop here)) Although, probably I'd build a few dirt roads through the forest...for off-road vehicles, you know. I love how you incorporate different trees and props everywhere, tremendous patience fine tuning literally everything. And factories can be sloppy, yours looks realistic with nicely merged buildings.

This is super cool. Im a huge fan of TwoDollarsTwenty and some of the other highly detailed Cities KZbinrs but Ive never really been into doing the really detailed creations but I think youve got a really good mix of how to use the vanilla game and light modding to make a beautiful, realistic, and detailed city without having to do the tedious work of placing every individual household and business.

Wow, I'm thoroughly impressed and don't remember being this delightfully surprised before from a new channel. Between this video and the last, your detailing and attention to detail is phenomenal, you look very experienced in all the game mechanics and the tools/mods you've chosen to employ, every space is scrutinized to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible. Exactly the kind of content I love in Cities Skylines. Liked, subscribed and notifications are switched on. Can't wait to see this city and channel grow. Keep up the excellent work. 👌

Truck driver here: Not sure if you read comments from your older videos or not. But... 29:00.... You stacked cargo containers on top of each other. This doesn't work inside factory areas, unless they have container stacking cranes. Typically, industrial parks won't have those. You only see them at MAJOR shipping harbors. Like Seattle, LA, and NYC. Even major railway hubs for inland trade, like in Chicago, typically won't have containers stacked up like that. Also, you need large aisles so trucks can maneuver around. Not even jockeys could use that space. Instead of orienting the containers the way you did, you could flip them around 90 degrees from the angle you have them. Leave an aisle all along the fence line in an L shape, and an aisle down the entry-way. The cargo containers could then be set back-to-back. Fronts facing the building, and fronts facing the fence. The rearends of the trailers facing each other ass-end to ass-end with no space between ass-ends. This would maximize the space for jockey-trucks to come in and out as needed. You could MAYBE have a max of 10 cargo containers / trailers in that space. And only jockey trucks could use that space. Now, for heavy long haulers; the big over-the-road trucks; you need a REALLY large, separate yard. Jockey trucks are short with a really low turning radius. They only operate within and between neighboring yards. They cannot travel on highways. That's why only jockeys can use that small yard in there next to the building at 29:00. For the over-the-road long haulers, the tractors themselves are much longer. They have sleepers in them for the driver. They have larger engines for fuel efficiency at higher speeds. And they have a much wider wheel base for stability, safety, and DOT requirements to reduce impact on the roads at high speeds. Because of this, they have a REALLY wide turning radius compared to jockeys. They need a LOT more room for maneuvering. So incoming and outgoing industrial connections need huge areas with wide spaces for dropping off or picking up freight. Basically, long haulers would come in and drop off their trailer in a big yard. These would typically be supplies of raw materials the factories need. A jockey would pick up the trailer from the large yard when it's almost ready to be needed, and bring it into the tight space next to the factory. When the factory is finished loading an empty trailer with their finished product, the jockey would take it to the large yard where a long hauler would come and pick it up and take it away. That factory in that small yard doesn't need more than ten trailers there. In fact, it probably doesn't even need more than 5. That factory asset itself needs actual dock doors. Building a large yard for long haulers on the other side of the fence would be realistic. A cargo railyard, which you mentioned you'll be placing in the other side of the highway, would work. Not sure why I haven't seen an asset that connects factories directly to a railroad. Sometimes you might see a cargo loading crane right on a railroad siding that goes directly onto the factory property itself, without having to use an actual cargo railroad hub. This is the ideal situation. You only need a jockey to transfer cargo containers between the dock doors and the cranes. And the cranes just lift the container onto a flatbed railroad car. No further infrastructure needed. BTW, the difference between a container and a trailer: Containers are the ones that are lifted by cranes off of container ships and railroad car flatbeds. They are then lifted onto tractor-trailer flatbeds and transported by roads. Trailers are just trailers. They are not shipped anywhere by sea or train. They just simply are picked up by tractors and driven over the road as tractor-trailer semis. They cannot be stacked like cargo containers can be.
