Start: Use the shovel that way, so we don't disturb the roots. Finish: Doesn't matter, as long as we can lift it up.

@Tressa Exactly. I don't think rose roots are so easy to die. They are tough bunch. So, for ppls who want to transplant, as long as you don't just lift the stems, they'd be ok. You don't have to use the shovel THAT WAY.

LOL... fragile roots. My aunt asked me to move a rose bush (which we hoped would kill it) so that my grandmother could see it when she became sick. I dug out the root as much as I could and after digging down two feet I cut the root off and transplanted it. Figured the root left behind would die... The following year I had two bushes.

Can't wait to get my rose transplanted! Is it ok to use an old hollowed out stump as a kind of natural pot? It's old. It's dying. The rose bush is really small.

really think a trellis in front of chain link would be better for a climber - training to the chain link is not as fun as it sounds (been there done that - replanted in friends yard and restarted mine in a sunny corner w/ it's own split rail fence🙂peonies aren't crazy about being relocated need a while to recover if you're forced to move them

I have a rose bush that I need to move. But I'm nervous about doing it. My grandfather gave it to my mother the day I was born. It's been in the ground for 43 years. It's against a brick wall. Mom has died and I've moved to Texas it is currently in Louisiana. Her house is going to become a rent house for government housing. I know renters don't take care of stuff. It would be nice if somebody with experience could help me make sure there's a good transplant.

Roses are often hardier than they are often talked about. Follow the steps here when digging it up, wrap the root ball with some plastic and keep moist until you get it home and have the chance to plant it. I have a rose that had just been lopped off at the base by someone and there was only two little scraggly roots left at best. I planted it anyway, kept it well watered and made sure soil was moist. This was two months ago, and it's now getting ready to bloom.

Adrya Webb can I ask you , will it survive If it’s not replanted within a few hours ? We are moving from one house to another and are taking a rose bush my husband got me when our first child was born. It’s in our contract 🤣. Our concern is actually getting into the ground on moving day with all we will have going on.

@@littlekingcobrasden4217 "I know renters don't take care of stuff." I'm happy for you and that you've been fortunate enough to never have to worry about paying rent, I'm sorry for any damages or injury you've endured that have caused you to hold this belief, and I understand your concern for the rose bush as it is a priceless piece of your family history and a living memorial for your loved ones. With all due respect, there are countless people who own their houses, cars, boats, etc and choose to let those possessions fall into disrepair and ruin; just like there are countless people who rent the car they drive or the home they live in and choose to value and maintain their good condition and treat them with respect. As an aside there are many, many millions of people who own fine homes and have luxurious, immaculate possessions yet they do not care about or care for or take care of their body and mind and soul. Anyway, I wish you well and I sincerely hope that you were able to retrieve and replant your rose bush successfully and that it has continued to flourish, providing you and your family with beautiful memories and fragrant blossoms for many years to come.
