Just some tips. Instead of using the zip lock bag just use some clear plastic and go over the top of container and use a string and tie around the top. Also when removing the roots from plastic tray gently twist the plant as you are pulling and they will come out easier. That lettuce you harvested at the start of video looked yummy !!

Thank you for this wonderful, informative and caring video! I'm new to gardening, just rcv'd my AeroGarden & had lots of general questions. I went to AeroGarden's website, watched 2 videos which were good but companies tend to leave out just common basic information or the what if's, how to fix solutions/answers so with this in mind, I went to KZbin, found this video and WHAT A BLESSING!! Please keep the wonderful videos coming. I would like to say too, I really enjoyed your calmness in your voice. I have major anxiety & so many How To videos I watch they are either disorganized, going 90 to nothing, loud and oh I must not leave out...the loud irritating music they play in the background. My point is, keep being you!! You caring about the roots shows a nice genuine attribute of yourself. Unfortunately in this world we live in today that is so hard to find. Happy and Safe Holidays to you & your family. 🤗☺️

Quick tip: Sealing that container is KEY... You should have used a large clear plastic garbage bag over the entire thing or cling wrap the top... this keeps the bugs and fungal spores out... 'sealing' the entire container you'd see better growth and zero dehydration...It keeps the inner air warmer and plants can live in a sealed container for months...Even though plants are CO2 sinks it takes a really, really long time to actually 'RUN OUT' of Co2 due to respiration of the plants! Sealing anything with clear plastic only makes the plant stronger. BE SURE TO BOTTOM WATER ONLY!

When I go hydro to soil I'll do a daily watering for 3-4 days to acclimate them from their environment. After that week passes, They're good for basic soil maintenance. Really don't need a bag. Plants simply require a constant water supply for those 4 days to get used to living in that medium.

I just wanted to let you know that mine at the bottom are connected too and I managed to get them out with ease by using a chopstick and gently nudging them upwards from the side to loosen them from the basket. Just be suuuuper super gentle with the roots, treat them with lots of love n care and they shouldnt get damaged. If you dont have a chopstick try nudging gently with a toothpick. I think the plastic baskets are normally connected at the bottom, but you can cut them to separate them like in the video. It's probably best to do this before planting, so you don't damage the roots by cutting the baskets at this stage.

Thanks for the video! Just got mine in today and I'm looking for tips and tricks. Can you elaborate on one point? You said that tearing the roots is like ripping off a fingernail... I have a horrid vision in my head now. What does it actually do to the plant? I'm asking because everytime I buy potted flowers or plants and I go to plant them in my garden the roots are normally really bunched and my hubby has advised me to tear apart the bottom of it to loosen them up, he says they grow better that way, that he learned this while working for a landscape company many years ago. I've never had a problem with the plants dying but I'm concerned I'm doing something wrong. Your input/thoughts/opinion would be greatly appreciated!!!
@TopODaMernin
@TopODaMernin 3 жыл бұрын
Your husband is right. I landscaped for a multi-million dollar house that had everything from herbs and veggies to flowers, bushes and trees. The roots will bunch up and they will strangle the plant. So you can either tear them or cut them and then tease them to loosen them up. This will help them grow into the new soil much better. Ripping off a fingernail wouldnt do anything physiologically to a human.. it would just hurt. Plants cant feel anything. But what it does, when you traumatize the roots is it causes the plant to basically go into protection mode and it will stop drawing water/nutrients from those roots. Which is why you want to transplant it quickly so the plant doesnt go into actual shock. But that takes about an hour+
@nicholeh9180
@nicholeh9180 3 жыл бұрын
@@TopODaMernin Thanks so much for taking the time to answer! I'm not tree hugger enough to believe the plant was feeling pain, lol! I just had this vision that I was causing some kind of major damage. But that didn't quite seem to be correct, because they've never died or shown too much stress. I mainly have a ton of various kinds of milkweed and some of the more "exotic" kinds get pricey per plant, so honestly I just wanted to ensure I wasn't damaging the plant or affecting it's growth rate by tearing up the bottom. It's actually why I bought the aerogarden. I wasn't having any luck sprouting any of the seeds from my milkweed plants. So I'm hoping this will work and if it does, I'll be transplanting them outside. Again, thanks so much!

when u buy potted plants they are almost always pot bound [have roots circling the root ball on the sides and bottom]. these are not fragile new plants... i use a three prong garden claw and aggressively rake the sides from top to bottom and across the bottom with long strokes. fear not. i just put the newly potted plants in a tray* with 1-2" of water in the shade to recover. when they dont wilt anymore it's time to put them in the ground and/or in the sun. *plastic concrete mixing trays [about 2 ft W x2.5 ft L x6 inches H] work just fine and u can carry a lot of pots in them. if u want to separate crowded plants just sink two opposing garden claws in the roots where u want to divide it and pull them apart. what the girl in the vid is talking about is tender young starter plants with very little root systems. different ball game.

I could use any tips or help I can get in choosing the correct one for the best price and for what I want to grow. I was originally wanting romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes and baby spinach and some herbs. But I cant afford a huge aero garden. Any suggestions? I'd also like to grow some hot peppers or baby bell peppers. But I just don't know how to get started.

Debbie, if you have access to QVC for online purchases, they have Aerogarden mini on easy pay. It has fewer spots for pods than the larger versions, but if you can then transplant the starters into regular pots, it just means you take a little more time to get a variety going. They sell the salads as a separate set of pods. The mini comes with herbs as starters.
