Great little video on how to knock up a wet panel carrier for we who are phobic of doing anything vaguely to do with carpentry. Never mind Dragons Den, why not make up a few sets and see how they sell on Amazon? I’d have bought one if they weren’t expensive. You could make up a series of different. You may have discovered your own cottage industry!

I like this idea and it seems like one of the best dyi's I've seen. But does the track mess up the edges of the painting?
@GeorgeFrederickThomas
@GeorgeFrederickThomas 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks, I don't find that the track effects the edges much as the painting is held still by the pressure from the bungee cord, however it can take off a bit of paint at the edge especially if the paint is thick. As the overlap of the tack is quite small it won't effect the painting much and this area is usually covered once the painting gets framed.
@woodspirit100
@woodspirit100 4 жыл бұрын
Great idea!! But I have a question. Do you paint to the edge or leave the edge out and paint the edge at home. Sorry if the question seems stupid, but I have never painted with oil.
@GeorgeFrederickThomas
@GeorgeFrederickThomas 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, that's a good question. I normally do paint up to the edge, unless I'm painting on canvas as I tape the edges to the board. If the paint is very wet the holder can leave marks at the edges but this is easily fixed when you take it out. Also I normally use frames which over lap the edges of the painting so if there is a mark from the holder it's shouldn't be visible once framed. Hope this is helpful.

Hi George - a follow up question if I may? I have made your panel carrier exactly to your specs and used it for a couple of outings. I have one problem however, the panels keep threatening to collapse and pop out as they can move diagonally within the carrier. I don't know if I'm explaining that well. Taking a birds eye view, the 'top' pannel moves to the right and the 'bottom' panel moves to the left (or vice versa). Did you find a solution for this? Everything I've tried or thought of so far would compomise the extreme portability of the carrier. Any ideas? Thanks.
@GeorgeFrederickThomas
@GeorgeFrederickThomas 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rhod, I find the panel carrier works best if you have panels that fit tightly into the slots as this stops it from moving in that way. If you paint on thin panels try putting two together in the slot at the sides this should make it more sturdy. I hope that helps
