Eurail pass is bogus. I travelled Switzerland ( bernese Oberland regional pass , almost 300 chf - all ropeway, train , ferry , bus included) , then booked in advance train tickets between various cities in Italy, Germany,France (even went to Mont St Michel at English channel), Austria,Belgium, Netherlands, Czech , Hungary.
