I have been traveling solo and while I hate paying the single supplements, I could not bear to have to share a room. I am tired by the end of a long day and look forward to the peace and quiet of my room after dinner. Don’t wait for someone else to go with you, because sometimes no one else ever pops up and you’ve missed the opportunity.

Beware sharing a room with a stranger. Did this once NEVER again!!! I was stuck with a whinging, moaning. miserable old git that smelt like an old ashtray for 4 days before I was moved to another room after making numerous threats to the tour company. Now, when I travel solo, which is most of the time, I stay at hostels. It is cheap, great variety of people and loads of happy young people excited about their great adventure.

Same here ... hostels and even guesthouses with shared spaces are great to meet people. In some locations, even locals come in to guide and share with travelers. I traveled alone for 4 months around the Pacific (public transportation only). I find it much easier now (66) than when I was younger - in many countries elder people are well respected (and no more a target for unwanted flirting ;-). Never was alone when I did not want to. Must admit I am introvert ;-).

I have been a solo traveller all my years. I was 18 when I made my first solo trip to Canada from a tiny island in the Caribbean. I am now at the ripe old age of 72 and still travelling solo. I have since travelled to several countries on four different continents; some places I have visited more than once. I have only been on one cruise with a friend. I do not care too much for cruises. I am planning my third trip to France for sometime later in the year.

I traveled solo for years before I met my husband. I went to Australia, England, Scotland and Ireland and had a fabulous time on each trip. I also went white water rafting and camping in Utah. I lived in NJ at the time. Traveling solo is definitely underrated!

I feel the same way about travel.When I was employed I won a trip to anywhere Canadian Holidays travel to.Valued at 2500.00.I gave it to my brother --in--law and sister and they did a week in Hawaii. I like being at home and local ocean fishing! CHEERS from HERE!

I traveled as a solo traveler one time. My husband did not want to go. It was a tour and I did know several of the people on the trip. I have no idea if I paid a supplement 🤣🤣🤣. One time I had a tiny room with a single twin bed. Another time I had a large place like a house all to myself. I had a great time. My husband and I travel together a lot. We remember the saying “make hay while the sun shines”. We are doing our best. We are in our mid seventies and it is true that we are slowing down. Tina and Norm your videos are always informative and you make them fun!

My daughter did London, Berlin, Budapest, Nice, some places in Spain and Fez in Morocco by herself last year. Before that she went to Mexico by herself. Next year for my 65th I am doing a solo train trip from Halifax to Vancouver. You make me want to do an economy Alaskan Cruise.

I have travelled quite a few times solo. I did a 10 day hike through Swedish Lapland back in 2016 and there were a lot of solo travelers doing the same. There was one elderly gentleman from The USA who was travelling on his own but had a guide with him for the hike. It was one of the best trips I have done. I went to see family in the UK afterwards for a week and had one day in Iceland on the way back to Canada

On a whim I posted in my volunteer group that I would like to take an organized bus trip to NFLD. Within minutes I had 3 others interested too. Unfortunately at this time the tour we wanted is way beyond our budgets but maybe someday we can manage it. However I had sworn never another bus trip after one to a convention in Chicago. The city and aquarium was well worth a visit but I didn't realize that you all had to listen to a movie and music of their choice all the way there and back. I never want to see or hear Forest Gump again. I prefer silence to enjoy the passing scenery. This was in the 90’s. I wonder if this is still the norm on tour buses.

I had just noticed recently that some resorts have rooms designed for solo travelling. It's not at all resorts but I have noticed a few while looking. Smaller room, one queen sized bed, less living space etc. Maybe the times are changing !!! Could also be designed for someone working from home and they want to travel and do their work in a warm climate but need a quiet smaller room to do their work.

Long time solo traveller here and I must say I do appreciate your video for highlighting the many options available. Travel for solos or couples is never 'one size fits all' so whoever you are and whatever your circumstances, you need to find the vacation package or plan that works for you. I've enjoyed many small group tours and met many international friends (just visited one in Glasgow that I met in Estonia 10 years ago!) but have more recently planned my own solo trips as it is much cheaper and I like the freedom. Sometimes I combine a short 3 or 4 day group tour with a solo portion of the trip to get the best of both worlds. The important thing is, do it. Find what works for you and book that vacation!

Thank you for the video. I have been solo travelling for 2 months each winter since I retired 8 years ago. Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador, Belize and a couple of trips to Europe. This year it will be Portugal thanks to inspiration from both of you! For the last 3 years my brother and his wife have joined me for part of each trip and then I carried on by myself when they returned home. It is definitely nice to share the trip with others but I am not negatively affected by being alone. (some people wouldn't consider it.) Keep up the great work. Hope to see you in the Algarve. :-)

Many hostels do not have age restrictions. The beds are curtained off or can be single rooms for reasonable cost.

my friend travels solo and meets friends on the beach in the Dominican. For cash or gifts this friend will stay day and night. My friend is an active senior but finds many young friends. Age is no barrier to having great fun.
