Join composer Guy Michelmore on a trip to the far east with Strezhov Sampling's new Jade Ethnic Orchestra library. Guy reviews the Kontakt library and puts it to work scoring a world music cue. Whether you are using Cubase, Logic Pro, Ableton Live or FL Studio, this library can open the door to a distinctive world music music sound, a touch of the exotic when you are writing a song or scoring a film. So if you are interested in how to write music, film scoring, Kontakt libraries and much more - tune in! I'm not paid to review or promote this software. I get a review copy and I only review software I like.
- - - - How To Write Music - - - -
How To Write Music explores the fundamental skills that underpin every great piece of music whether it’s a song or a film score, string quartet or video game sounds track.

@@ThinkSpaceEducation ... NOTE to SELF: do not be drinking a hot mug of coffee (or tea) while reading comments or watching Guy... although it did clean out my sinuses and I avoided (barely) messing up my keyboard. Brilliant, fun, entertaining... and of course educational... and now I have clean sinuses and will be smelling coffee the rest of the day... a semi win-win.... All the (continued) VERY BEST!

Thoroughly enjoyable video. This orchestra sounds fantastic - I love to work with a fusion of East-West instruments in my own musical wanderings. Guy, you're hilarious - but somehow even your fluff-ups are teachable moments. I really like this style of passing on musical know-how. I am very tempted to invest in your online lessons, but will the fact I can't read music and I genuinely find it difficult to grapple with all the terminology and such prove an impediment? I like these videos because they are all about the creative stuff - 'the doing of it', rather than the theory.

I don't know what it is, but when i'm feeling uninspired I pull up Guy on YT then I turn on my Himalayan pink salt lamps in my studio, and sit there and soak up the vibrations, and soon enough, I'm back to composing again. Something about those negative ions and Guy's creative vibrations. Hey Guy, hope you get a chance to read this as I am looking for some advice. I'll keep it brief. I'm just starting out on learning to be a composer, and I wish to take on some of yor short courses, my only worry is right now i feel I don't have enough gear to get me comfortably started. I have Presonus Studio One 4 professional, a more than capable laptop, a guitar, old keyboard and other odds and ends. But I don't have a midi controller , i just use the mouse to map out my music. I've watched your videos a lot, (and recently subscribed) and i see how your workflow is super efficient. Is it possible to do your courses without it, and also do you have any recommendations on what type of midi controller best suits our needs as a composer. Thanks in advance, and keep up the incredible vids, I am incredibly inspired the more I learn.

I will always associate erhu with this story: I went to a Giacchino film music concert in Lucerne, Switzerland, and they played the finale from the first Star Trek, which starts with Spock's theme on erhu. The conductor started, quiet beginning, the erhu player put the bow on the string... And it sounded so wrong the conductor stopped the piece immediately. Then they restarted, quiet beginning, conductor points to the erhu - same awful sound. He stops the piece AGAIN. Turns out: the erhu player had the score upside down on her note stand and didn't notice. She turned it around and the audience started laughing.

Dreams about sailing gently down the Yangtze on a boat captained by a loony composer, while a bunch of mongolian ladies serve me green tea. Ah - no answer to that question. I appreciate it may seem irrelevant, but not to me. I recently have been introduced to a different way of working via yourself & Labs with Kontakt - which I haven't used before. I have a decent rig - enough for audio, but not for multiple virtuals in Cubase 10.5. I need a rebuild plus some relevant Kontakt purchases - hence the spec question.

I would reccomend Cubase 10.5 pro for home studio. It has just about everything you need for writing, recording, mixing, and even video. Cubase is running a trial offer during the stay at home thingy, you could look into that and try for free. You definately would need a player like Kontact to get vst instruments. It is worth the upfront cost for full player, but there is a free player that limits your instruments. Otherwise cubase is great for recording live instruments as well like guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums for a home studio. I have been using Cubase for years and once you learn the ropes of it, you'll never look to a different Daw. Good luck
