My father always used to put linseed oil on posts etc a couple days prior to installing especially the part that would be underground. I don't do that, but I use Timber oil on most of any wood that I put outside. Timber oil is not very commonly used but I find it works well on any wood - even like ax handles, shovels and rake handles etc... any tool with wood handles I think its great for treating wood to last.

Makes perfect sense to seal up the cracks. I've worked with a lot of pressure treated wood and there's a reason they sell end seal cause the chemicals they use to treat the wood don't fully get down into the core of the wood especially on 4x4 posts and bigger timbers. It's also good practice to recoat pressure treated lumber at least once a year so the lumber doesn't dry out.

Yes good points . I use a sealer every second year because it sits in the sun and dries out fast.

Would u recommend clamping the split befor caulking or just caulk them as is?
@SteveRobReviews2 жыл бұрын
The splits appear as it dries out so preventing splits is something I have never seen resolved but filling them in does prevent premature rot. Cheers Jun

How's she goin'? With the cost of lumber these days, especially pressure treated, anything we can do to make it last is a good idea!!! Thanks for sharing buddy and take care!!!
@SteveRobReviews3 жыл бұрын
Yes good point Mike . Plus the pressure treating is not as good as years back either so maintenance sure makes a difference.

They say that a married man's hearing deteriorates the longer he's married (apparent safety mechanism against the screaming from the wife). FYI...the safety vest makes it easy for her to spot where you are, when you're trying to get some Me Time in the backyard. =)
