Just a quick bit of advice. I had a heavy heatbeat for 15 years and even though it wasn't life threatening it was hard to sleep with my heart pounding all the time. My whole body would move with every heart beat. I did have a bad diet and had gained about 25-30lbs. I won't give you all the details but finally I did a full month of 18/6 intermittent fasting(which was very hard for me to do!) and magically the heavy heartbeat went completely away. My best guess is my Vagus Nerve was being over stimulated which caused me to think it was my heart when it was the nerve the whole time..the IF allowed it to calm down and go back to normal.
@nobodynothing25943 жыл бұрын
Eric Haynes this is a great comment thanks for sharing this! Gives me hope as I’ve been suffering this recently & IF did clam me down. I will continue doing that & also the inversion hang as Lone Wolf Therapy commented right somewhere above your comment. I have sustained a compression spine fracture T8 & that aggravates my overall pain besides this. God bless you. Be well.

OMG! This has been me for the past 12 years. Went to a cardiologist twice and they found nothing. My doc acts clueless about it. Went low carb and started supplementing with magnesium and it's helping. Gonna try IF. Didn't even think that it could be the vagus nerve!

The *vagus nerve* carries an extensive range of signals from digestive system and organs to the brain and vice versa. It is the tenth cranial nerve, extending from its origin in the brainstem through the neck and the thorax down to the abdomen. It is the secondary "bodily brain" that communicates in concert with the brain to send messages and information about the "extremities" that might need repair. The vegas nerve can control the body in dire health or in coma to keep to keep the organism alive, especially the heart and the brain. It would be logical that the vegas nerve is the last nerve system to conclude before death. So it should be renamed as, *"the god nerve."*

Wonderful Dr. Berg! This is a great explanation of how to support our parasympathetic system - and why it is necessary for our health and well being. Your acupressure tool and stress seminar are wonderful for supporting people - but as you have so many followers it would be great if you would do a five minute - just before sleep video/audio here on youtube to help support people as they are going to sleep. Having worked with breath and formal medication with people for almost fifty years - I have found that just explaining how to do an equal breath - - or a five minute breath relaxation during a person's day is not enough - - even learning breath relaxation in individual and group sessions often is not enough until it becomes a habit as in the keto diet and intermittent fasting - - which is what led me to doing individual tapes for my patients in the eighties and putting a general instructional on youtube years back as people needed "training wheels" until their body and inind got used to the habit - - The apps available today really are not good for real in depth practice and aid - but people are so used to your voice - and trusting you - that a five minute breathing tvideo to use as they go to sleep and another one for use several times during the day - - no huge explanations - just your voice and maybe some light music - - would really be helpful to the many who trust and benefit from your advice! Keep up the wonderful work!!!

@@kellikelli4413 watch a baby breathing - their ribs barely move but their stomach swells with each in breath. Copy them - put yr hand over your chest and breathe so your hand does not move ... only your belly shd move. Also the belly-breathing stimulates the organs with the mild pressure. And you calm down. If you observe someone breathing into their chest (esp the upper chest) they are in a constant state of STRESS! You can gauge the emotional state of your children by their breathing signs - if they are breathing upper chest - they need comfort and love - cos they are stressed. ps: Stress is FEAR ! I think inversion hangs is great. I think it calms the vagus nerve as well as many other benefits. It is very meditative to hang upside down, and it provide a nice blood-flow to the head, and it feels relaxing on the whole body. As soon you do an inversion hang, you are breathing totally different. The body needs decompression from time to time. I would recommend to have a inversion setup, where you can hang low enough to have your palms at the floor. It's a great exercise. I always feel good after hanging upside down.

dr berg, can you please give us more info on gastrointestinal issues (such as gastroparesis) and the vagus nerve? :))))
@ilovedogs9383 жыл бұрын
Omg yes!! That's what I was looking for when I came across this video. Gastroparesis. Apparently that is linked to a nerve problem with the vagus nerve and PNS. So theoretically you'd think this would help. It's also linked to pots, hypothyroidism and diabetes.

Wow Dr Berg. I'm hoping to implement this and see if it helps me sleep any better. I've had insomnia now for 14 yrs and these last two years are the worst and I weaned myself off of Ativan about 4 months ago but I am doing terrible I'm a 56 year-old grandma weighing 110 lb and I'm afraid this lack of sleep is going to give me a heart attack. But I remember telling my daughter that my breathing was not right and I knew that also affected my sleep and I also read up on the parasympathetic nerve and I know I need help with that. I'm like always in the fight or flight mode. And I never go into REM sleep. I hardly ever get past an hour of sleep at a time. I'm getting quite scared at this point. I would make the drive to you from here in Detroit if you take patients but I don't think you do. I need help before its too late for me. And I live alone but at this rate I'm gonna lose my job and my trailer and I don't want that to happen cuz I don't wanna be a burden on anyone. I thank God that there's someond like you to share these video's with us I just wish I could figure out everything by myself so I could sleep.

I also had leaky gut 2 yrs ago and drastically changed my diet. Well I think I have it back again as I'm bloated again my belly is big and now my back is hurting which I'm pretty sure its my gallbladder. When I eat pizza or breads or meats it hurts worse. So now I'm watching what I eat. There's so much more but too much to put in words. If you still see patients I would drive there because you could help me. I really need the help to get my health back. The medical Drs put me through all these tests (colonoscopy, endoscopy, hide-a-scan, cat scan, ultrasound, etc) and said they couldn't prove or disprove it was my gallbladder. They never solved my problem. It was a functional Dr that told me I had leaky gut 2 yrs ago. So I lost faith is MD's for these kinds of issue's.

@@abz2749 I got better after I stopped eating most foods and stuck to a bland diet but now I’m sick again bloated and I’ve paid the naturopathic Drs so much but this last one I have an appt with it cost me over $700 she’s done an urine test on me she specializes in the gut, so I go to her in about a week for the results. I’m pretty sure I still have leaky gut as any kind of sugar or gluten makes me feel ill and I am so bloated. Regular MD’s don’t do anything helpful, they just prescribe big pharma drugs that don’t work.

@@ZOKUUUUUU can you give me an example on what I could eat for a whole day so I know how much meat to consume and you don’t think it would be too hard to digest, do you? I have had gallbladder issues also, so I do take digestive enzymes when I eat cooked foods. I would appreciate any information you could give me and any advice and just give me a example of what you might eat in a typical day thank you very much 😊👍

I’d like to hear your thoughts on gastroparesis, which is related to the vagus nerve. They say there’s no cure. I wonder if vagus nerve stimulation can cure it or if you have any other ideas
@karinberryman20092 жыл бұрын
Gary, this helps me with Gastroparesis; Ginger. Star Anise seed - from Indian/Asian grocery shops. To help digest a ‘big’ meal when you feel overwhelmed Quick Eze (Calcium Carbonate 800 mg) is great. And when desperate clean your teeth and swallow the toothpaste. To switch off the Fight or Flight mechanism ‘draw’ circles around the ear with a smooth pen-like device (not the protruding structure) but the top edge of the ear canal, either clockwise or anticlockwise.

You forgot one, being fat and overweight, it puts pressure on the nerve around the neck area, which interrupts information from the brain to the rest of the body. Also doesn’t let your brain drain the toxins from your head, which cause head aches and cranial pressure. (Feels like your head is in a vise being squeezed)
@buckchile6143 жыл бұрын
Humming, singing and even whistling("whistling past the graveyard, anyone?") can also stimulate this nerve as well.

I do Yoga everyday. Breathing in and out in long breaths is the biggest part of Yoga because your breath moves the body (most people get that only after they have practicing Yoga for about 3 months). We practice long and slow breath. Yoga is the best thing to heal the body from the inside out!!! I started with a KZbin video called Yoga Zone for beginners (Alan Finger).. he explains the moves so well u don't even have to watch the screen. Check it out! It will change your life and body.

Apparently this is what is affecting me. Three trips to ER in the last 9 months. Starts out of nowhere…Severe pain and cramping in legs (screaming), sometimes bowel release (ugly), and then a big drop in blood pressure right to the edge of passing out. All testing has come back clean…blood, urine, CAT, MRI, etc. I’ve no idea what the triggers are and it has made me watch everything I eat & do. Brassicas are out. Any kind of muscle relaxer or relaxing tea and extra exertion physically. (Sometimes not?) Any suggestions appreciated.
