How to trim Crape Myrtles FIXING CRAPE MURDER!!!!

In this video i share how i try to rescue crape myrtles here in Virginia. This is my own resolution I've come up with and its does seem to do well. I am open to any info yoi may be willing to share with me. Thanks please subscribe and help my channel.

New subscriber. Excellent video and good advice. I have 3 dynamite crape myrtles, 4 yrs old, planted 7 ft apart that I'd like to grow/train into single trunk. Only spot that gets full sun. Should I prune lowest suckers in Dec here in central Texas? Your expert advice is greatly appreciated.

I prefer a battery chainsaw. The bar is smaller & easier to twist into odd angles, plus it's much safer if you're on a ladder. Some of this new stuff has some incredible run times. I have a Kobalt Lowe's discontinued. I bought an inflator to use as a mini blower to clean bugs out of cars around the felts & rear deck corners.

We live in Florida, moved in December and moved the tree to a new location by a professional. Here it is May 5, and still no sign of life, there is green under the bark, will it live?

You shouldn't have more than 7 main trunks coming from the ground. 3, 5, or 7 is best.

If someone wanted the tree to be short why is it called murder rather than trimmed.

Cut the numbs in half. Pick two branches out of each nub and keep the rest pruned off.

How do you keep the height in check if you want to keep it at a certain height?

You have to choose a dwarf crepe myrtle if you want a short one. Not a 40 foot tall tree....

I always say dont plant a tree if you dont want one. Some flowering fruit. Trees grow smaller than crape myrtles do. But if you must keep it trimmed you combine this video with a topping. However when you top you remove the dominant branch down to a point where a new vertical stalk is growing leaving an inch or two from the cut to the new dominant branch. Besically restarting the branch growth. Must be done before spring growth.

This is why you top them to control canopy height you let it go you get what I call weeping myrtles. Not natural nor healthy growth great video but definitely should've brought the top down some. Those already looked stretched too.
