I watched a few vids and I like yours the best with the top piece first and less seems. How did you bend the aluminum? I did a google search and nothing pre-bent comes up

When you hammer nails, it sounds like a burst from a machine gun. When I try to nail that fast, I make a mess of my board and bend my nails. You must have super powers. :-)

By the way Ken, you're doing great! Cant wait to start building, I get so excited every day I check for a new video or even an old one, if no one else has said it, the way you teach inspires and encourages me. Could you do a question and answer video. I would like to ask if you could show step by step how from start to finish the measuring part of building the foundation and forms etc...start to finish. How or where to place j bolts in the beams.... Do you ever use blueprints and if so could you do a garage explaining how to read a blueprint. Curious Watcher... Thanks for all you do in explaining things. Joy to watch you and Chad.

Wouldn’t doing the sides first and having a flap the top will cover be better in case water gets behind it somehow? I’m about to do my door in the next couple days. Thanks for the video.
@gordo3090 Жыл бұрын
Yes! You are spot on. Everything on the outside of a house should “shingle downwards such that water sheds down and away without being trapped. By the same logic he should have slid the flashing above the door up under the house sheathing. Good catch.

Honest question. Why did you do the top piece before the sides. If the sides were up 1st, wouldn't it be harder for water to get in the seam
@kenskarpentry5 ай бұрын
The sides tuck under the top

Is the cost increase supply and demand or is it the devaluation of the dollar with all the money that has been printed lately? Seams like everything is more expensive.

Ive argued this with wiss forever but the red snips are actually lefts, not rights. I would think red=right but its not. Ive carried 4 pairs of snips in my bag for 30 years. Right straight and offset and left straight and offset. You cant do metal work without them all. Given the price of your coil stock its interesting you havent switched to PVC sheet (royal, azek, permatex) on the jamb faces of garage doors. The trim coil gets so beat up there over time the PVC seems a lot nicer especially if you can run extruded instead of ripped material (extruded finished edges and sides)
