Liked your video. I have been looking for such a tutorial just on lavender...I want to grow lots and lots of lavender on my property, I just love it in my entryway. FYI, I learned a long time ago that in the black plague of the middle ages a town in France that grew lavender for their livelihood did Not get the plague. Turned out -- fleas did not like the lavender. All the town survived.

Thank you so much for this clear, informative breakdown delivered in such a sweet, upbeat way :) I inherited some mature lavender shrubs last summer that look like they have been neglected for a few years and become very leggy. I am so afraid to cut off too much, and yet don't want to take too little and stifle the plant - now I feel much more equipped to get at it!

Hi Yaima: How much water depends on your climate. My first farm got around 45 inches of water a year. I only watered once a week for new plants in the ground that were planted in the spring. I watered until the fall rains came then I did not water at all for the next 15 years. For lavenders I planted in the fall, I did not water at all. Lavenders in containers - no matter where you live will watering once a week. Maybe twice if the temperatures are super hot or there is a strong drying wind. FIY: The lavender farms in SEQUIM, WA have an annual rainfal of arounf 19 inches a year. Farms there water once for about 8 hours in the fall.

Hi Julie.. My grandsons gave me 4 2" Spanish Lavender seedlings back in June. They are 10-12" tall now. I live in Canada. We can get nasty winter weather. 🥶 They are in small fabric bags. Do you think they will survive winter If I put the small bags into large bags, filled them with leaves and brought them into the shed? Or Dig a hole put bags in and cover ? This is my first time growing Lavender. Time is running out I can not find any help for winterizing such young plants. If you have a video , can you send me the link. I couldn't find it ... If we cut too much is there any chance that they will come back? I asked my husband to prune five healthy lavenders and he cut them to the wood! I am so upset!
@SauvieIslandLavenderFarm
@SauvieIslandLavenderFarm 2 жыл бұрын
They have a hard time coming back from a pruning into the wood. Especially if there was a frost soon after. Lavenders put in new growth throughout the summer. You could let them be and see if any new growth appears over the next few months.

I cut mine back about halfway before I plant. I also pinch back flower spikes the first season. Do both of these and the plant roots will establish faster and set you up for success for next blooming season. It will take three years for lavender to fully mature. Julie

What do you want to do with your lavender? My answer was based on my commercial use of lavender that I dry and sell online. Lavenders that I have other uses for, such as drying and stripping to make lavender buds for sachets, I don’t mind picking in full bloom. Full bloom works for culinary uses too. 😀
