Incredibly useful function. I get always surprised by how many tools taranis and openTX have!

Wow! Thanks Lee. How many times have I trimmed a new plane hoping I wouldn't crash it in the process. That's great!!

I recently used this for the first time on the Tango 2. It's basically required on that transmitter, as it doesn't have trim tabs. Once you get the aircraft flying more or less true, you can trim it out using the T2's jog wheel trim. It worked even better than I had hoped! With this feature, the T2 becomes a viable controller for flying fixed wings.
@438fpv3 жыл бұрын
May I ask what you mean by jog wheel trim? I'm looking into fixed wings on the T2. But no trims kind of put me off. With the jog wheel trim, and the instatrim, I guess I need to buy a wing now 😌
@dos4gwexe3 жыл бұрын
@@438fpv if you double press on the jog wheel, you can step through the different axes and then trim them by turning the jog wheel. It's cumbersome, but with the instant trim it works well enough. This is truly one of those under-the-radar features. I literally learned about this few months ago and it blew my mind that it's been around. Even many seasoned OpenTX pilots were unaware of.

Excellent video [as usual]. This is a very useful, under the radar, and powerful feature. I use it to trim my planes in manual setting without interfering with the flight controller functions. The trim to sub trim feature that re-centers everything is a godsend.

Looks very useful. What happens if you use Instant Trim a second time in the same flight? Does it stomp the previous trims or add to them? Edit: I just tried it out and it adds stick positions to current trim values, so no stomping.

I have often seen this in the special function menu without even thinking about what it was for! Very handy indeed, thanks for pointing it out. But I must add that if my plane is too far out of trim I always prefer to land it and make physical adjustments to the control linkages. But, for those flight where you may have got the battery position slightly off, or something else is knocking the trim out I think i will be using the instant trim in future, looks so much easier than trying push the trim tabs individually. So great video, a very useful tip indeed - thanks!

I use the DIY button mod on the back left side of the RadioMaster TX16 for this. It is in the perfect position to press without inadvertently moving the sticks.

I like to get a good mechanical trim, so once I’ve dialed in the tx trim settings appropriately, I will land the aircraft, note the position of the control surfaces, zero out the tx trim and adjust the servo rods so that they hold the surfaces in the adjusted position with zero stick input/trim. That maximizes your range of control and your tx/FC resolution.
@Painless3603 жыл бұрын
That is the ideal way to do it. I've covered setup in many of my videos (i.e kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2TNk4mZgKaHpMU) but it usually takes a bad experience from a pilot (or a more experienced one taking them through it at the field) that makes it stick. Happy flying!

Thats nifty. I didnt even know that was an option in OpenTX. Isn't it usually "frowned upon" using the tx to trim a plane a significant amount rather than fixing the model? I can definitely see that being used on a maiden just to keep it in the air essentially until you land. I do realize this CAN NOT be used with iNav like any radio trimming.
@Painless3603 жыл бұрын
Some pilots get very sniffy about too much trim. That assumes that the model has been buult and setup perfectly to start with and has the nessessary roll bias to take care of the torque roll and the right amount of reflex from the elevator to keep the nose up. This is why I cover control position and throws in my videos as its a guessing game for a lot of the foamie models. Some of the 'instructions' for some models are laughable. happy flying!
@rougeneon19973 жыл бұрын
@@Painless360 I completely agree. I guess in watching your vids I usually "Take" them as a stand alone informative video. Do you own a "Nano Goblin"? Ive heard the shipping for them to the U.K usually out-weighs getting one. Its my FAVORITE flying thing. I think every fixed wing flyer should experience one. 😎

Occasionally I maiden an aircraft that (horrifically) requires more than the transmitter will allow me to trim out. I presume that the instant trim command maxes out as well, correct? Thanks for showing this useful tip Lee! I’m throwing it on my transmitter right now.

Is a nice feature but in the same time can bite you big time, specially if you are a beginner pilot, just be careful, looks nice, is not. A small bump during the switch activation or a dynamic movement from the radio and you fingers and you going down fast really fast.
@Painless3603 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I find this very handy for models that come with poor setup instructions so you end up with a lot of pitch adjustment to just fly level. Frustratingly, then cant take your fingers off the control to trim in without the thing nosing into a fatal dive.. happy flying!
@maxun13 жыл бұрын
@@Painless360 100% Correct Lee, when I go up and plane is all wacky, specially other people planes in maiden, that always they said can you flight it first? The plane goes, nose down and then violent left or right and even out of balance, so I do one at the time in medium speed, first ailerons, then elevator and done. I make sure I got extended trims in the radio.
@StevePotter3 жыл бұрын
I think it would be better to put this on a left hand switch so you can fly precisely while hitting the switch. What do you think?
