Learn how to use the decoding and trigger functions of a SIGLENT SDS series oscilloscope to troubleshoot a serial bus.
This video builds a temperature and humidity measurement system with a Raspberry Pi, an SPI-controlled OLED display, and an SPI-controlled temperature and humidity sensor. It analyzes the serial data with a SIGLENT SDS2000X series scope.

I have the previous version of the scope. Not the X. But still very similar and useful.

I have the SDS-1204X-E and it's I2C setup is practically identical. When I analyze a device, I notice that the last byte of data in all reads displayed seems to be "~" in Hex display mode. I see it here on all your reads as well. I wonder what this means? Is it a deliberate symbol for the I2C stop sequence or what? It's obviously not a normal hex value. I didn't see it mentioned in any scope documentation. I notice it on many (perhaps all?) I2C test setups I've used the scope with - but I'm not sure whether it means that I need to troubleshoot my terminations or I have the trigger level set wrong or something... thanks in advance, M ! Never Mind ! A more careful examination of the manual section titled "Interpreting I2C decode" showed the following: "~A" after a data or address bits indicates no acknowledgement. For example, DB~A Sorry to bother you! M

Is this is same software used in the new SDS800X HA? Can I use these same capabilities in the UART (RS-485) protocol? I also assume I can save the TX/RX data as binary to a USB drives and convert it on my pc? thank you!

Hello, the software may not be exactly the same since the SDS2000X is an older model compared to the SDS8000X HD, but the SDS8000X HD does include serial decoding and powerful triggering modes, like serial bus triggering. This series also includes UART trigger and serial decode, but in order to confirm RS-485 and binary USB drive exportability we would recommend contacting our product experts at sales@tequipment.net.
