Just did all that on my boat. Enjoyed the video and your process. It is far easier than folks think. you covered all the steps. I appreciate the inclusion of the "mistake". That helps reenforce writing things down, drawing a diagram, and the "measure twice, cut once" mentality. As a motorcycle suspension tuner, small adjustments can make a big difference in so many areas. BTW, I leave my 100 foot tape attached throughout the process to occasionally check that the mast is straight by lining it up to the sail channel at the bottom of the mast. Keep rockin.

Yeah it really is pretty simple and I agree small adjustments can make a big difference! I need to be more diligent moving forward. 1 of 14 projects done! ✅ 😂

Well, I had several issues with a previous vid. But, I gotta say, excellent job making rigging understandable to even folks that have never done it. 🍻

Right on. Thanks for sticking with me on these vids. I’m just sharing what I do and hope it’s useful and maybe if I’m lucky a slight bit entertaining 😂. Cheers! 🍻 🤙🏼

Nice job, G! The only boat rig I checked with a Loos gauge was my Star that I used to race and I only used it with the cap shrouds. It was helpful having rod rigging because typically once you set it you do not see much stretch over time and you just have to stick with the marks with the rigging. Maybe I missed it (sorry distracted while viewing) but have you found what other folks are doing in catalina 30 racing association? With the number of catalina 30s out there I'm sure someone has figured out optimal tension and it would be helpful to have that data as a baseline.

Thanks man. Like everything else in the sailing world there are mixed opinions in the forums but I haven’t checked with the C30 racing association and what specs they use. Thats a great idea. I will do that and possibly have a quick update in the next video. The nice thing is I can adjust my rigging pretty quick now that I have the Loos gauge.

This is great Andy, looks like you did your homework. Tuning the rigging is more important than people realize, performance and less stress on the cable. Good DYI. The new Dodger frame looks well designed, nice bow radius.

Thank you Bob. I still need to double check my tension as Mark mentioned, it was a good idea but I’m pretty satisfied at the moment. Time for a sea trial… 🤙🏼

Hey Andy, Rob Dyer here. Quick thanks for your content. I am learning, lol. Purchased a vessel recently and working on her. She is in Alamitos Bay Marina. Attempting to get the motor freed up. If you guys are in this area, would be cool to meet, do a food, and exchange ideas. Enjoy THIS day!

Hey Rob, congrats on the new vessel! I am currently in that area. Maybe we’ll cross paths soon! Cheers!

ANDY! With hair that short you need to see the boat and buy a ... minivan for all your gardening tools! What the heck man? 😁✌🏼

I’ll have to rent the loos gage from you as I’d like to check my rigging before I replace it and then after for comparison. I feel that the boat points a little better on a starboard tack, not too important as I don’t race and I’m sure a boats built in 69’ aren't as symmetrical as a newer boat.

My apologies but I don’t know who this is. KZbin screen names don’t show who it is. Anyway, hit me up on Instagram and we can discuss loaning the Loos gauge if I feel comfortable with that. 🤙🏼

Great video! I have solid rigging on the C&C. I’ve heard stories of folks tuning their rigging by ear. As a bassist, I’m intrigued and wonder if you could also use a chromatic tuner and how accurate that might (or might not) be to use in conjunction with the rigging tools.
@sailingsoleАй бұрын
Wow that would be cool to use a chromatic tuner 😂. I have heard tones from tight rigging before.

I use a frequency meter to tension belts at work. If you can determine the Hz required, I'd say it would work. Although, I priced the meter at work out of curiosity, and $830 isn't ideal.
