Super nice video! And I couldn't agree more on that effect of holding your tom in your hand and have it mounted on a stand. It's a huge difference.

I'm writing this at the beginning of the video on purpose. Having an issue with a boingy 12" tom. I had a eureka moment a cpl wks ago. I really only hear the Boeing when I'm tuning I don't notice it when I'm playing plus it occurs to me that I don't really ever hear drums that aren't recorded. So I've decided to just keep tuning to what sounds good to me and play. Now n then I do play around with what I can make em sound like. Sort of an adventure in sound. Thank you guys. I like y'all as much as I like that kit. ❤️Yamaha. 😁

Thanks! I suspect the reason that your 12" had less sustain when mounted is because it was next to another resonant drum that was interacting with the 12". The true test would be to mount the 12" with no other resonant drums nearby and then see how it compares to being hand held. Also, the correct physics term is "damping". You aren't making it wet. :)

Excellent vid !!! I have a lot of issues with my bass drum ..I can never get it to feel right with a double pedal ...It either has BD Dribble or to hard to play fast on like you see all these drummers playing super fast on there Double pedal .To get the feel right and have a nice thud and low end and a nice feeling kick is sooo hard ...Ty stay well

Please, do a video with various bass drum tunings. For example: Batter head low and front head raised from low to high.

Thank you sir I enjoyed this video very much and I know your tips will help me out thank you again . I do have one question? Earlier in the video you mentioned that the Yamaha hybrid Maple kit you find very difficult to tune can you tell me why that is?
@drumdog2 ай бұрын
Glad you found this one helpful! 👌 Ah, good question - I didn't mean that the Yamaha AHM was hard to tune, rather that toms are harder to tune than kick or snare (in my experience anyway!).

Good video. Bottom head of 14" floor need to be a little bit tighter.

Wen you tune yor drums Donte hit the drum with the drum key that will dent the head use the tip of your finger or the tip of your drum stick

i've been doing this with a key for years and never ever dented a head. it's light tapping after all.

The people who line the logo up with their badge are psychos..knock it off. Also, why would you say its easier to start with the batter head, vs having the resonant head on first, but offer no explanation? You can't just certain things are right or correct but offer zero reasoning
@drumdog3 ай бұрын
That's a good point, meant to explain that one! I tune up the batter head on its own first as I find it easier to hear the exact pitches between lugs without the reso head adding sympathetic resonances. As the reso is so much thinner, I find it a little clearer hear the pitches with the batter fitted, so path of least resistance! Obviously it's far from essential, but if both heads are off I find it easier to start there 👍 But come on now, behave yourself, every kit deserves the logos lined up 👀
