Please consider what your objective is. This modification will almost double the heat BTU output of this burner. Please be mindful and consider all the factors in your situation to make for a safe camping.
The Camp chef Ranger 2 stove is an awesome stove but it only produces so much heat and 17000 BTU each perhaps enough for most people. We do however stir fry quite a lot when camping. We have several woks varying in size and when stir frying for 4 or more you need heat, and lots of it, to prevent the vegies from boiling, and instead broiling. We usually carries a turkey fryer along for this purpose, but it is bulky and extra to lug around. This is not the first stove I have modified and I believe you can do so while also being safe. I usually work with cast iron burners and this one is aluminum. Being that the melting point is around 2000 deg F for cast iron compared to just under 1300 F for aluminum you have to consider this also when you dive in.
First thing to do is to check for any obstructions. As you can see in the first few pictures there were quite a lot of metal sponge's left inside the burner, so first thing is to clean those out.
This is like rejetting of a carburetor really. You cannot just increase one part without the other. So step one was to increase the burn orifice from 1.2mm to 1.6mm to ensure a higher propane flow. Then the holes in the cast burner was increased from 2mm to 2.7mm. Thirdly the mixing chamber was enlarged so as to be able to suck in more air. These burners are designed to produce a certain range of heat and usually can be pushed a bit but you have to consider the fact that you are playing with fire..... Literally, so please be careful. As you increase pressure and flow through the burner the flame will vary and generally you want to avoid a yellow flame. It is an unclean burn and generally produces Carbon monoxide, so if this was for the inside I would never consider this. It is however for a well ventilated outside stove far away from any heat source, so this can be done in a safe matter.
The end result is awesome and I have now increased the output of the stock burner, even with the trailers regulator, and if I really need to push it, I will grab a tank from the front and use a high pressure regulator.
Please enjoy.

Hey thanks for this video. I used it and enlarged the holes in my orifices on my two burner campstove and doubled the output.

Thank you for walking us through this process.... I always wondered if/how it could be done and if I would just melt the aluminum burner.

@@ebrabaek is there a manufacturer you’d recommend with really high output? And how much faster propane/butane does it go through compared to an unmodded burner.
@ebrabaek
@ebrabaek Жыл бұрын
@@citizenpark2782 it is not really a manufacture and even the same manufacture has both low and high volume burners. Most common stoves..... excluding turkey burners..... have 0.5 to 1psi regulators on them. But increasing to just 2psi you have a tremendous heat output increase. You don't need to go 5 or 10 psi unless your brewing beer or frying a turkey. I suspect I'm running about 1.5 to 2 psi on the variable output regulator and burning about 33 to 50% more. That is why I left the other burner alone for more like breakfast and other low yield requirements.

Hi, how did you disassemble the knobs and all that? Thank you
@ebrabaek

Hi there. You pull off the knobs. If it is hard, then use a flat screwdriver or other flat object to wedge in between the knobs and the front plate. Then the burner assembly comes out through the top grate that you removed. Hope this offer a bit more guidance. If your still finding it difficult just let me know and I will dive in deeper.

These burners have more than enough heat out put on high most of the heat is flowing around the pot which is a waste of fuel .

I wanted to see how the burners were disassembled, if it ain’t broke don’t try to make it better. Your burner is not burning, clean wasting fuel polluting the atmosphere and giving you carbon monoxide to breathe even though you should be outside. Thanks for a good try.

What do you mean a good try? He increased the high output, sometimes you need a higher flame as when cooling fish, the small burner will not keep enough flame to keep grease at 350 degrees, his modifications has now given him a real fish cooker
