I built my business on this advice. complely broke I used a second hand mower a trimer and a broom I found on the road. we have just put our second crew on the road and are now a gardening company as well as lawns. this guy's advice is incredibly good.

Same here, This guy lit a fire under me, I went out and bought a 5 gallon bucket, some trash bags, a 6 inch rake and a flat shovel. I put adds for poop scooping on craigslist, started a website for $10 per month, ordered $12 worth of business cards on vistaprint and hung them on doors. When spring came, I bought a $50 push mower I found on craigslist, put that in the trunk of my car, started offering mowing. 3 years later, I have 75 clients, 1 employee, I mow, scoop poop, trim bushes, plow snow, and a bunch more. Bills are paid, I'm doing the work I love, my name is getting out there and this spring I added 20+ clients. I wish I could shake Jonathan's hand, he helped me to stay inspired and gave me so much information.

I quit my chef job 10 months ago. got everything with 0% interest for 5yrs. my clients love that my equipment is shinny and I wear polo shirts. makes them feel safe in there retirement community. I had no clients before I bought my mowers. now I have 64 and 4 commercial accounts . the MOST Important is to be there when you SAY, do a great job and you will be a success . My one client got me the rest. people would see me mowing and come talk to me... 2. WORD OF MOUTH will build you or KILL you

Beachside Lawn Maintenance - well that's great. but what if the equipment gets stolen . what if you hate the job in a year. there's so much things that could happen sand the bank can care less. also for that mower you bought new I bet I can buy a used one with a little hours for half the money .
@beachsidelawnmaintenance2207 жыл бұрын
WHAT IFS? you better think before you go. STOLEN ? ya ok, by who? I KEEP EVERYTHING LOCKED UP AND A GUN AT MY SIDE. you are right about getting one cheaper for half the money but you get there problems. why are they selling it? why not spend no money and get 0%? spend others money. TORO, GRAVLEY, BAD BOY they all give 0%. I paid my mowers in the first year. You have to work, I watch videos on you tube then include it in my services. so? sorry DON Abraham everything is how we perceive things and we see things different.. iam gald for that because I am making more money now, then working 80-90hrs a week in a kitchen and not seeing my family . I did door hangers for 2 years. got a good base. 5 years later, i dont even advertise anymore. Im not trying to be a millionare. I have 60-70 lawns per week. Thinking about getting more and hiring help. With $6000 to start i would get a good mid grade zero turn or walk behind and a good trimmer and blower.

Right you can also buy good used walk behind for 1500 easy that is half decent, blower and trimmer for less than 500 and a regular push mower commercial for 250ish
@shogunMR5 жыл бұрын
@The_guy_that_brake_checks_ Jerkoffs walk behinds are great especially for lawns that wont take long. When i say walk behind i mean 36-48 inch and as you get slightly bigger or more lawns you can put a sulky behind it and have a regular push mower as well for small tight areas ( around pools, townhome lawns, and small gated back yards). we are in the same boat i have a regular job and do 7 lawns on the side and that what i have. I got lucky a lady was selling her husbands stuff and i got an exmark dirt cheap $450 48 inch all i did was clean the carb bought new tires and blades. keep looking on Letgo, craigslist and OfferUp most of those will alert you when what you are looking for pops up. good luck my friend ... if i can help i will. let me know. ive worked in landscaping and lawn care for years but i want my own business the owner makes the real money if done right.

I started my company after the one I worked for closed. I was broke. Bought a cheap second hand mower $25. A broom( free from family) plus a $25 leaf blower that sometimes worked . A $5 rake plus a $8 dollar leaf tarp . I worked hard but was able to buy my plow, so I could do driveways. The most expensive thing I had in the beginning was my 400 up front cost for insurance . Thankfully lawn care when done by the job you get your investment back as quick as you land jobs. It's not expensive to get started. As long as you are willing to work your self as hard as the tools you bought. so you can afford the best one day. and be mowing in a Cadillac mower. I was ahead of the game a little when I started I got most my work from the apps like lawn starter

Refreshingly honest material as to how to start and run a business with minimal money.Been there and I have been lied to on multiple levels,be prepared for this,and it will surprise you how many of you so called friends will expect you to work for nothing,don't even think about it and if they dare ask you ,they are not your friend. 1.Get your customers and grow their numbers. 2.Avoid debt like the plague,I don't care how many others say its okay,its not if you want to sleep. 3.View your employees with a sieve. From personal experience my first best employee was an ex-convict.Yes he was so wrong and so desperate,I read the riot act and bluntly told him screw up and you are out the door.A year later he was sieving my next batch of employees and he was as rough with them as I was with him.Today.since 1984,he runs my back office and survives an audit without rancour. It a'int plain sailing but having to endure employers who are pigs at best I would go for it.

Michael DeWitt be upfront and honest when taking on new work. Let them know you are busy, people actually like to hear you are a few days weeks out. it lets them know you are in demand, thus must be good at what you do. Make sure you don't neglect your current accounts. Retaining them is what we consider "free money" every season. As far as employees, don't get frustrated. You will go through a bunch of them before you find the right fit. That first one is always the hardest to find. Once you have him, pick his brain for friends/family that would also work. Good luck, and keep at it!

is there any way I could email you my lawncare flyer to critque? thanks
@coldwe7 жыл бұрын
Colin I used to sell real estate and do a lot of flyer and door knocking. The best advise I ever got was your flyer needs to answer 1 of 3 pains from owner. You either need to be answering how are you saving that homeowner time, pain or money. If your putting a picture of you and just saying call me for your lawn needs, you might as well throw them away. I go knock on doors and have scripts as how I can solve those for people. When I knock on door I try to figure out which of those do homeowner need most. Ex: wife with kids needs time or money. Professional business guy needs time and pain. Elder retired might be pain or money.
@colinettema84457 жыл бұрын
so awnser time, pain, and money? thanks I appreciate it
@coldwe7 жыл бұрын
Yes think about what if someone knocked on your door and wanted you to use them for something, what would make you use them? You can always usually answer with money but of course you will work yourself to death and be broke. So you got to show a reason to use you. I see little kids in the house and a stressed mom I usually hit on time. I see a dad with kids and he don't look stressed I talk to him about is he going to the beach with them this summer or is he taking his little buddy fishing? Next you know I got him thinking he wants to spend more time with his boy this summer and he's asking if I could quote him up something. That's time. I never said I was the best yard mower or the cheapest for 100 miles or said I'll do it cheaper than anyone else around. I'm probably not either of those.

You don’t have the right mindset. I got 200$ mow job it’s possible. You have to keep the mindset that I have to get what I’m worth. The property I did was house out in a small wooded area. The guy had a 3acre field. The field took me 2hours. 50$ per hour since it was large area. Plus 100$ for initial mow. You have to have confidence, show them you mean business, and be able to provide them with best quality service. That landed me another customer for fall. Property had 25 oak trees in the front. Blew them to the curb easy day job for 560$. Know your worth and don’t flatline. Keep working hard you’ll get what your worth!

Everything he's saying is true.. don't get stuff you dont need yet because it only leads to procrastination.. Focus on sales and account acquisitions 1st before you even think about getting a mower

If your asking this question then you don't have a business sense to become big. It also means you know nothing about lawn maintenance.
