How to turn a CAN LIGHT INTO A PENDANT LIGHT

How to turn a recessed can light into a pendant light using the Westinghouse can conversion kit
This is the can converter used in this video.
It is only for lighting not for ceiling fans.
I have replaced a can light by going into the attic and this is well worth the extra few dollars to avoid the attic.

Hi! What did you do with the bare copper wire? I have the same kit and I'm not sure what to do with the bare wire, if I need to connect it to the pendant light bracket green screw or just leave it there.

I connected mine to the green screw. I'll just add that I am not an electrician.

Copper is the ground wire and it's meant to be touching metal. Ideally its never used but in the event of a fault, it redirects the electricity safely.

Did that bracket come with the pendent light or did you buy separate? I can’t find one.

Everything came in this can conversion kit. I recently tried another conversion kit that is even easier but is limited to lights under 4 lbs. I will be posting a video on that soon.

Did you drill the bracket through the canister? Or just straight into the drywall?

What size screw is the fixture mount hole? Cannot find the right size

We were able to just use the screws that came with our light fixture. Unfortunately I don’t recall the size.

This kit is NOT rated for a ceiling fan. However, there are other kits like the "Can Converter 7" Kit" that are ceiling fan rated. They are more expensive (about $68) as of this post. I found them on the Lowes website.

At 1:49 second, you were able to screw it pretty easily, but I couldn't make that easily... I used nails, drill etc... stuck there now. Any tips?

Did you try predrilling with a thin drill bit first? I find this always helps. Self drilling screws can be helpful too.

I did try using my drill with drill bit (7/64) but as it was hard I tried nails too 🙂... however, I just borrowed impact driver from my friend which helped to screw them well... it's pretty tight now. Together drilling it a bit initially with drill bit + nail helped finally. Thanks again for your video.
