How do you use this conversion kit if your can has a " lip" meaning its not flushed against the ceiling so the white decorative piece has a gap between it and the ceiling.

This is nothing but an advertisement for these conversion kits. My Hubby replaced a can light with a pendant and he's pretty knowledgeable about home wiring (he wired our whole house when we built some years ago). Note that there is no drywall around the light in the video. The prior installation of the can light complicates this conversion greatly and they don't mention that little fact. It took him 3 hours to do this job and they did it in about ten minutes. The instructions are horrid, as usual, and there are several things they simply don't tell you. The bottom of the can must be level with the drywall; they mounting rod must be centered in the can body; you have to calculate the depth of the screws that hold the medallion to the mounting plate; the self tapping screws that are supposed to drill through the can body won't drill through cardboard; etc., etc. I have no doubt he'll do better if he does another but let's just say there is a long learning curve.

The conversion kit comes with a white or clear wire which does me no good because my pendant has a black wire but I can’t use it with the conversion kit.... sucks!!!!!!!!

the ridged side of the clear wire goes to the white wire you have. The smooth one goes to black. You have to run your fingers on the sides of the clear wire to tell which is which.

Its all fun and games to just turn off the switch, before you cut wires and are shocked to find out the power is switched on the neutral side, not hot.
