I wonder how much of this is the Mandela effect though. The actual movie didn't really become a cult classic because of it's stunning visuals, but basically for the exact opposite reason.
@ClintCarneyCreates3 жыл бұрын
@@lordsamich755 When the movie came out in 1954, the visuals were pretty striking for the time. I still think the design of the creature holds up pretty well too. It's definitely my favorite design of the Universal Monsters

@@ClintCarneyCreates Definitely. I love stuff like that. A few years back I ordered, what I thought was, a decent Shape mask. When it came it was horrific in totally the wrong way 😂 The only way I could do anything with it was by spraying it pure white and then literally painting a copy of the Shape mask onto it, highlights, shadows and everything. It kinda worked. But then, a week before Halloween I tore a ligament and the neighbourhood was treated to the sight of Michael Myers on crutches!

THANKS for the inspiration!!! Started the project to do all three movie Ampibious Creatures (Creature from Lost Lagoon, Abe Sapien from Hellboy and the creature from Shape of Water). I can concur that spray foam is not the way to go. Had a disatrous (using a Shape of Water mask) go where I put a whole can in and it stayed liquid (lack of exposure to 'air' or reaction with the latex?). Completed the bust and painted it only to have it expand like the worst case of the mumps. Released the pressure by cutting behind the gills and the foam expanded and squirted out for DAYS!!. Sliced open behind all the gills and eventually salvaged it. The exposed gills just added to the overall effect. Tried two other masks (Ape Sapien, and Creature FTLL) using Gorilla Glue method. Much more controllable. Had so much fun that my next attempt is to make Horror versions of the Cereal monsters Franken Berry, Count Chocula, Boo Berry, Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy. Found suitable masks as a starting point on ebay for about £17.99 each. Can't wait.

Amazing work, Clint! That is a great display piece for sure and the glossy finish really gives the creature that wet "lagoony" appearance. Haha! Well done. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to see 'The Creature from the Black Lagoon' in 3-D at a local Cineplex Odeon movie theatre showing the movie for a limited engagement and as much as I love the movie in 2-D, it was all the more enjoyable watching it in 3-D on the big screen. That was a very memorable experience, so if you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it or if you have the ability to watch the 3-D Blu-ray, I know you'll get a kick out of it. :)

Thanks for checking it out! Silicone is pretty tricky to paint. You have to mix your paint with silicone basically. If you search youtube for "painting a silicone mask" you'll find a few good videos that walk you through it. Same with the rubber props, just search for "painting a latex mask," and there are lots of great tutorials. Good luck!

Do you have any other tips or tricks to remove the creases from shipping? I use a heat gun and no luck.
@ClintCarneyCreates3 жыл бұрын
Try heating the mask from the inside of the mask... though be careful if you're using a heat gun instead of a blow dryer as it can get too hot. Then while the mask is hot, stuff it with something to put it in to the right shape, and let it cool off while stuffed. You might have to repeat the process a couple times if the crease is really bad. Good luck!

My brother sculpted his own latex creature mask from clay and made a plaster mold out of it. I would love to do something like this with his design and make it into a bust. Maybe even a bronze bust?
@ClintCarneyCreates3 жыл бұрын
Nice! Well, if you wanted to recast it in resin, you'll need to make a new mold of the mask out of silicone, as the resin would ruin the plaster. You can also mix bronze powder in with resin and make a "cold cast bronze" statue that way. Good luck!

@ClintCarneyCreates3 жыл бұрын
Great question. You wouldn't be able to use those sculpting materials on it at all, so you'd pretty much just want to do a repaint, though the acrylic paints that I used in this video I wouldn't recommend for a wearable mask as they would eventually crack. I'll try to cover that in a future video though. Cheers!
