BIG THANKS for this video! I was able to make my AP work with my WIFI Vendo machine.. At first a tutorial said to have me connect my USB to LAN to the AP-capable router's LAN port not the WAN port. I did that but didn't work! I came across this video and found out that it's supposed to be connected to the WAN port of the AP. So now it's all up and running.. My vendo's coverage is just expanded. Thanks!!! :D

the newer tp link routers seems to all come with this handy buit-in option for changing the operation mode of the router to routing to access point and even to other options. It is pretty convenient for ease to set up and deals with all the needed configuration...you just flip it, connect an ethernet cable to its wan port and set up its wireless settings. But nowadays it is also very easy to manually set every other router into an access point, wired or not. The basic of it is to just disable the dhcp server of the access point router and assign to it an ip within the same subnet of the main router. Then you just plug an ethernet cable from the lan port of the main to the other lan port of the access point .

Can I have both the router and newly converted Access Point both use the same Network? @shadowalphaop5238 3 жыл бұрын
@@derrickferrao you need to use the "Enable WDS Bridging" option for old router(AP) under Wireless settings, if your are using TP link router. For others look for WDS bridge option and pair the two routers. No need to have wires, but the speed difference between wired and wireless connection of two routers is noticable. You’ll get very good speed when using the wired connection, there is significant decrease in speed if there’s a wall in between two routers.

@@tpsupport Thanks for the great video. One critical feedback would be that Part 1 and Part 2 sound like the same (due to my lack of knowledge) problem. May be that you could have elaborated on the subtle differences for a layman. I have a couple of questions on my setup. I am trying to add a TPLink Archer router to my Frontier Internet setup. I have three network devices (R1, S1, and R2) at my home described as follows. Frontier has already provider me a router (let's call it R1). R1 is connected to the Internet over a coaxial cable. R1's IP address is 192.168.1.1 and is configured to vend DCHP addresses in the range 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254. R1 is also a Wi-Fi access point. R1 is upstairs. To R1 I have a connected a TpLink 8 port network switch TL-SG108. (let's call it S1). S1 is downstairs. To S1, I have connected a TP-Link AC1750 router (let's call it R2) to extend my Wi-Fi range. I have configured R2 as follows: a) Configured R2 to in AP mode b) Assigned a static IP address 192.168.0.254. c) Cable from S1 is plugged into a LAN port on R2. To R2's Wi-Fi SSID, I have a connected a door bell device, and that is working fine. Also, I am able to connect my iPhone to R2's Wi-Fi SSID. When I login in R1, I see all the devices, whether connected to R1's SSID or R1 Lan Port or R2's SSID, show the IP address in the range 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254. First Question: Do you think that I have configured my Archer router correctly? Second question: I am not able to login to R2 from my laptop browser that is connected to R2's Wi-Fi SSID. I don't understand why. Third Question: When I login to R1 and see the list of devices, I see the R2 router, however it is showing up as "inactive".
@guuszuijdgeest
@guuszuijdgeest 4 жыл бұрын
@@gl4511 hi G L, I think the answer to all three questions is the same as it's probably caused by R1 being on the subnet of 192.168.1 and R2 is on the subnet 192.168.0 which makes them not communicate with each other. As you noticed it does pas through internet but when you get an IP address from R1 you're in a different subnet than R2 and therefore not able to acces the web interface. The solution is setting the R2's IP address to something like 192.168.1.254. hope this helped

if your second router supports ap mode, then you connect the main router(lan port) to second router(wan port), will the four lan ports on the second router still work? can you still have wired connections on your ap router?

@@tpsupport I have your products... basically a modem router...and additional router which is called C9.... In my primary router (old logo) When going to WAN management...I check my Vlan status and 802.11p as N/a....It does mean My ISP didn't set any VLAN thing and I can Use Directly as Bridge?

Hi . I would like to ask about the part 2 where the part we have already setup the old router become access point and setup switch off dhcp on the ip.(minute 9.38) The question is after switch off dhcp, how to access the old router? And how to find the ip address on old router? Note: my network topology is modem => bridge(mikrotik) => old router(access point) . this above setup is other people that help me to setup it. So i could find the ip address. Please help me to solve this problem. Thanks in advance

How does it make difference if in the first case also I plug into a lan port instead of a wan port on the Access point?

He left out the most important part. People setup Access Points so that they can connect to the Wifi. For example, when they are in another part of a home (or building). How do they setup the Wifi portion of the Access Point? So that the "wifi" Access Point is an extension of the primary wifi router (seamless connection). Or so that people will manually have to drop the far away weak primary wifi router, and manually connect to the closer stronger "wifi" Access Point. How do you do this important wifi portion?

I just gave both the same SSID and password and my phone seems to be smart enough to switch between the two.

@@gaobo5679 Exactly. I have 6 access points in a large church building using routers as access points. They all use the same SSID and password as the WIFI setup on the main router. Users do not know when they move from using one access point to another.
