You are a good man sir, my son SSG Nicholas P. Bellard gave his life for his country in Iraq, he was well respected because he was always going out his way to help others. Thanks for the video Bob, to many people think they have to buy these very expensive welding machines to TIG weld and the reality is all they need is a buzz box, argon bottle and TIG torch. I weld off my gas drive all the time, its how I learned to weld years ago. you learn arc control very quickly when you have 200- 300 feet of welding cable drug out threw a paper mill, you cannot be running back and forth to the truck to adjust amperage when your welding Stainless pipe.
@blakereaser67777 жыл бұрын
By buzz box do you mean AC welder only?
@EastCoastWoodworking7 жыл бұрын
AC or AC/DC the younger generation will call them old fashioned transformer machines, down and dirty straight welding machines not an inverter machine. For AC on aluminum you can get a HF and your off and running. Simple and works great.

I learned how to weld with a Lincoln AC-225 back in high school. Did a bit of DC welding around the ranch with a Lincoln "Pipeliner" unit, but never really knew the difference since they both seemed to work the same for the steel pipe we were using for fencing. 20 or so years ago, I stumbled across an AC-225 on Craigslist and I've used it for a lot of things, including 200+ ft of steel picket fencing built from scratch in my backyard. There's some things that I really wish I had a TIG unit for. Is there anyway to adapt the AC-225 for TIG or must it be DC?

I must have had my old stick welder for at least 30 years and it was anything but new when I bought it. It's survived years of storage in a leaky shed and literally being stood on when it got in the way. I swear I could run a small truck over it and it would continue to work! It only goes up to 150 Amps, but that seems adequate for my needs. Several years ago I bought an almost identical TIG torch with a view to using it to TIG alongside stick, MIG and oxy/ace. I now have no excuse to delay - other than changing my Argoshield Lite (argon/CO2/O2 blend) for pure argon. Maybe have both? Thanks. You make it look so simple, but I think I'll find it isn't when I start; just as I did for the other methods of stitching two pieces of metal together.

Gramps was a welder blacksmith, dad was a universal welder blacksmith and i was shown at 15 yrs old, now what i will share with you is out there and you dont require gases or any expensive tig rods. first you need to purchase "everdure", 1rst get carbon rod, sharpen to point same as tig, clamp in your electrode holder, DC electrode pos, and use the eveture like any tig rod. hell i made my own short box by literally cutting 18 inches out of the box and frame, i used everdure, to weld the box back together, the rods are about $4-5 last time i bought.

I weld aluminum with a similar set up using an old Lincoln AC/DC Ideal Arc, the old 'bullet proof' last forever welder with the rounded top. To weld aluminum use 100% Argon, use copper to ball the tip of the tungsten electrode and to avoid contamination of the electrode always initiate the arc on copper placed next to the base aluminum to be welded. For copper a flattened 1" [or larger] hard copper tube coupling works well. At home I rarely weld thin aluminum, it's hard to justify spending $2K on an AC Tig welder. I also own a DC Mig with spool gun but it is best used on thick aluminum. Excellent informative video, thanks !

Once you get to the end of your pass, try and angle the torch tip to the edge of the weld. Say you’re tig torch is at a 45* while welding, as you get to terminate the weld, angle it up and away. (Slowly) You’ll see the puddle diminish. Just try and guide it to the edge as it’s getting smaller. Hope this helps you out.
