Hi Kev. Thanks for the videos. So informative. Just putting pipework onto an IBC as a temp holding pond. I used a fan cover from RS components part no. 5440548 on the outlet side of the drain pipe. If you tin snip it just outside the inner 4 rings this makes a perfect fit in the outlet to stop the stock getting pulled into it. Looks a pro job. Have a look and let me know what you think.

Cheers for watching, I'm not 100% sure which bit you mean but let me know if it doesn't make sense. I bought a IBS Adaptor to convert to 2"BSP outlet. I then reduced it to 1 1/2" BSP and connected it direct to the Pump using a 1 1/2" Flexible Rubber Elbow. Plan A, B & C was to use 2" all the way but it didn't work out right.

Thanks for watching and the questions. Just remember that you only do what you can afford and what you need to get the results you want. I buy young fry and use the IBC to grow them through the winter. To do that the water needs to be good and heated. If it was an ornamental Pond I would not heat it but I would always use filtration. If you check out some more video's you will see upgrades on the IBC format. Also check out the other videos on the filters as I have a number of different filters in use across my set ups including several Pondxpert Spinclean Auto's. They consist of Foams and balls inside them. I also have the Tempest filter to take out fines and increase the biological side of things. The Bakki Shower on the return is to help remove Nitrates from the waters. Also on other video. Check out the later video's on the IBC and check out the Description as all the equipment is listed below but in answer to your questions NO you do not NEED a Heater but if you can afford it then a Heater will improve the health, appetite and growth rate of the Koi through winter as the Filter bacteria will stop working below 12 degrees water temperature and you fish will stop eating and slow down. I am about 90 miles from you more inland it through the winter the water will drop down between 0 & 3 Degrees if it is uncovered and unheated. This will not really hurt the fish but they will just sit at the bottom in a state of torpor.

@@AKoiEnthusiast I think I'll be doing that next year and focusing more on individuals. I purchased the 1000 Fry lots from Cuttlebrook and whilst they wee great fish - there are so many very, very plain white or orange std koi. I actually didn't lose any at all until I had split them into 2 IBCs last winter and one had a catastrophe and all 500 ish died over night. I think your approach makes more sense in the long run to end up with a better quality fish.

Great videos! I've actually been running using IBCs for ages and hadn't even considered using the bottom outlet! I have 2 1000s out side and a 1000 and 600 in the garage for winter grow on. What do you use on the inside the IBC at the outlet to prevent the little ones escaping into the system? Again I've been racking my brains (which seems to be where I went wrong before!) But can't find anything that looks compatible to use as a strainer / cage / basket. Thanks for any help and keep making the vids. I only subbed about 3 hours ago and I'm about 8 videos in! 👍👍👍👍

Brilliant video I'm thinking about a similar setup and build around the ibc cage using wood panels or decking the only thing worries me is what filtration I need for a 700 litre pond. I only want 3 or 4 baby koi in there i know I can have a waterfall that will introduce oxygen but filtration is too complicated for me

Cheers for watching. If you are having a small body of water and you want to maximise the set up. If I had two recommendations 1. Increase the Flow rate through an oversized filter. 2. Put extra aeration into the water. Oxygen is very underestimated. Check out more Videos on my Channel or KZbin and you will learn so much about filtration and growing on

For the 1” Fry I used a pump strainer on the end but put one of the wife’s pop socks over it for a couple of weeks until the fry were big enough not to go up the drain

They are Pump Guards that came with my pumps but as I dry mount them I didn't need them. Try Fiveacre Pond Supplies or E Bay. If you still struggle let me know. E Mail me on akoienthusiast.co.uk I might have a spare one.

Cheers for watching - I had the pump guard spare from my other pumps as I dry mount all mine. I did notice that you could get similar ones from Fiveacre Koi Supplies and also on E Bay. If you still struggle message me on the Website akoienthusiast.co.uk and I might have one in the shed depending on 1 1/2" or 2".

Hi mate great video. I have just brought a IBC tank and I want convert it like yours as you have done such a nice job. But I have a few concerns which I hope you don’t mind helping me with. 1) would you recommend me getting a pressure filter as I have herd a few bad things about them and of course which one should I get as I haven’t got a lot of money to spend on this fry tank I will not be able to afford a tempest at the moment but might make a filter or showers to sit on the top of the IBC tank as I have not much space 2) what do you think of the cloverleaf heaters once again I’ve herd bad things about them that’s why I haven’t put one on my other QT but would like 2 as I have a aquarium 500 watt heater and is on day and night and dose not switch of and it’s costing a fortune 3) 10.000 lph vario pump seems a lot just for a 1000 litres tank 4) when you put the fry in after they have been in the net/mesh what stops them going down the outlet to the pump Thank you for your advice and help and keep up the good channel

If you mean on the outlet, it is off my pump. It came with the 20000 pump but as they are dry mounted I had them spare. The hole in the ibc was just the right size to screw a 2” bsp Stainless Steel nipple in there and then screw the pump guard onto the nipple.

Hi I’m building something like this Wanted to ask You think it’s possible to fit a viewing window into the ibc cage? Any help or suggestions? Cheers
@AKoiEnthusiast
@AKoiEnthusiast 3 жыл бұрын
Looking at my IBC I'm not sure 100%. Cutting the Cage would not be a problem but the actual PTFE (White Plastic) Liner is not Flat and the contour follows the shape of the cage to give it strength. The sides of the IBC will be like the window and are flat but the top and bottom has vertical ribs that are about 30mm deeper every 100mm. The second Fry Vat I have is perfectly flat and smooth and would be ideal but the IBC will depend on the Manufacturer. It would look good if you can do it. Check the Website or Facebook Page out and send your photos please

You say your 10,000 pump has a 2” inlet and outlet but my one only seems to be 1.5”, would this still work by using rubber 1.5”-2” adaptors for the pump?
