Maybe consider a different title? This doesn't convert a headphone into a microphone... it takes a set of headphones with an existing microphone and turns it into a... um... well, a microphone.

This is such a cool hack! I just bought one of those earbud sets with the microphone and really just wanted the mic by itself. This is such a great way to make your own microphone, especially if you need one right away. And the price that you pay for the earbuds themselves (e.g. $20 is what I was hoping for) So glad I found this video

THANK YOU! Needed to find a $0 fix for carrying around my iPhone when I did videos to record myself speaking because my DSLR and video cameras both captured sound poorly and even the directional mics I used were way lacking in quality. This is GENIUS! I tried it inside and am looking forward to going outside to see how it works in the elements. This was an amazingly cheap godsend! I appreciate it!

Why don't you record your voice externally? I mean put earphones and record your voice with your phone and record video with your camera, synchronize it and you get very quality audio on your videos.

Nawwww, see I ripped the earbud part off because its the size/circumference of a dime.. Perfectly stealthy.. Im not using Apple headphones and its crazy how much this 'pod' looks like a shirt button. I was thinking I want to make a button mic. There are so many videos that lie just for views, mostly from the middle east, my question is if I reverse polarity will that actually convert the 'bud' to a mic like so many people claim... The apple version I'd run down my sleeve and attach it to my watch or an extension of my watch, no matter the color. You don't have to be so clandestine sometimes when you can dress accordingly lol .
