Thanks so much, my prop was windmilling and killing the glide, I was wondering what was going on, and today noticed the prop windmilling, which I knew was wrong, as you found no instructions on programming, but I just ran onto this and reprogrammed it, worked like a charm! I've been flying another electric sailplane and knew it was supposed to stop, I was really surprised when I saw this one still spinning with the throttle closed. I was wondering why it wouldn't glide for more than a minute, there's the answer.
@PaulGarbettNZ8 жыл бұрын
Yes. They really don't glide at all with the prop still spinning! I did a major crash on my first flight just because the plane kept stalling out on the glide. I lost it in a corner and it tip stalled - only time that has ever happened was when the prop was still spinning - acts like an air brake.

@@patrickb8286 Hello. I use a 4s 1500mah battery for short bursts. It doesn't seem to get too hot. You are supposed to use a 3s 1500/2200/2500 battery, but i found it just didn't have enough power. Since the motor is only on for short bursts i use a 4s, but a 3s would be better for FPV flying.

Hi Paul, I tried this on mine, I get the exact same beeps as you do after I put throttle high to low and same sounds when I reconnect the battery after but the braking doesn't turn on. Is your speed controller a volantex 30amp? This is what came with my lanyu asw 28 from hobbyking. Thanks
@PaulGarbettNZ9 жыл бұрын
Hi Darryl, sorry to hear it isn't working for you. My ESC does not say that it is a Volantex. It is plain blue with a few numbers written on it. Its the one that came with the plane, which i got from Hobbyking just a few months ago. I pushed the throttle down on the 2nd beep of the second series of beeps. Maybe try activating different series of beeps and see if that works. Then reverse it if something undesirable happens (like engine reverses). Maybe search online. FMS ESCs go: Brake; Battery type; Cutoff Threshold; Reset; Timing; Soft Acceleration; Governor mode; Reverse; Frequency; Cutoff type. So maybe yours is the first series of beeps like it is on FMS? Try it and let me know. Paul.
@PaulGarbettNZ9 жыл бұрын
Also, make sure that your throttle is calibrated right. Engine braking only comes on when throttle it quickly reduced to zero. You can get it to keep free spinning if you reduce it to about 10%. To calibrate throttle: Turn controller on -full power. Connect battery to plane - wait for 1 beep, then reduce throttle to 0 (before it enters programming mode). Should then give 3 or 4 beeps.
@dzubot9 жыл бұрын
Paul Garbett Hey Paul, after calibrating the throttle I was able to get the brake set! Thanks a lot for your advice. One other question, did you replace your foam hinges with real ones? a couple of mine are whining, i'm thinking it's because the foam hinges have too much resistance. I may just change them anyways, used to having standard hinges on my planes. Thanks.
@PaulGarbettNZ9 жыл бұрын
Great! I'm glad that worked for you. My hinges have a couple of cracks in them, and I am watching them closely. You can replace them with tape easily enough, without needing to use actual hinges (if they are hard to get). I gave mine a good flexing to soften them before I hooked them up, and that seemed to help.

Hello, I am trying to make my ASW work. But the ESC gets really hot when i have the throttle stick all the way up. Do you know what is causing this and how to fix it. I dont think the ESC have shortage because its all nicely made.
@PaulGarbettNZ8 жыл бұрын
Hiya, its not uncommon for the ESC to get hot with full throttle. It will probably turn off the engine if too hot. It means there are too many amps going through it. I'm assuming you mean it gets hot because the propeller is turning and burning too many amps. If you are using a 4s you can only have it on full for a few seconds, so do most of your climbing on about 3/4 throttle. If on a 3s you can have it on longer. A glider like this is probably not designed to have the engine running continuously. Just for climbing then a break to cool off. So see if you can adjust to that way of flying. Else, if you want to run the engine continuously for fpv etc then you could get a bigger ESC. Its 30amp from memory so maybe a 40amp one would suffice.
@nielsh12868 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks for the responds. I have switched the ESC with another one and now the engine works fine. I have tried flying the plane but it went straight in the ground and broke my prop so i have to wait for another one. When i tried to take off the plane instantly went to the ground and hit the ground. Do you know how to properly launch it by hand. How much throttle and how hard you have to throw it. Thanks for the help. ;)
@PaulGarbettNZ8 жыл бұрын
Oh, sorry to hear that. I think it could be because the plane is noise heavy. Try moving the battery to the back of the tray, and check where the cg is by balancing the plane on your fingers under the wings. I would usually give it quite a hard throw on half to three quarters throttle. Just enough for a gentle climb. You can use the flaps or better half flap and a little more power on takeoff if you want to be safer. Or even run along with it and throw. The plane should be able to glide safely to the ground with just a throw and no throttle. Tell me how you get on.
@nielsh12868 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice. I am a member of a glider club in the netherlands and i fly gliders IRL. We got some members who are also model builders / flyers. They are going to help me with flying and balancing it up! Thanks for he tips they sure will help me ;)

It works. Have you suggestions fort thé CG? With a 3s 2200mah, n'ose heavy. I put 20 GR un the tail.
@PaulGarbettNZ9 жыл бұрын
Adding a bit of weight to the tail is probably the right thing to do. Check the elevator. I noticed mine had a bit of a curve in it and needed to be angled up a bit to compensate. I keep the battery as far back as it will go on that little stand. Make sure you can get it to balance before you fly, cause a tial heavy plane is a diaster. There is a little mark under the wing to balance it on.

Paul Garbett Thanks Paul. I've found the topics on rcgroups. Some have removed the support for the accu or have made it longer in the rear or have replace it with velcro direct on the fuselage. I'll removed the weight and try to put the accu more on the rear. I had a bad experience with a tail heavy and underpowered glider yet: disaster in fact.

jeanfsac ok cool. Sounds like a good idea. I have all the wires and receiver etc taped down now to keep it all neat and out of the way. Also have the antena taped into a verticle position inside cockpit for best reception.

@PaulGarbettNZ9 жыл бұрын
Hi. I am not absolutely sure the prop size. I think it is a 9x5. I measured it as exactly 260mm from tip to tip accross including the hub in the middle. Hub is 40mm and shaft is 4mm. Hope this helps.

Hi, I think you'll find the prop is 10x8, mine just arrived, and it has the 4023/850kv motor. I've swapped the combo out for my Turnigy 2836/1040kv and it's 11x6 carbon prop.
@jeanfsac9 жыл бұрын
I think Paul is right. i've a copy of a mpx blizzard - T2 m Infinity (9x6) and the propellers are the same.
@PaulGarbettNZ9 жыл бұрын
Does anyone else out there know for sure? I have ordered a 9x5 for another plane and I can compare that when it arrives. I could beleive that it is a 10'', but there's no way that mine is a 8'' pitch. It would be 5'' at the most i think. It might be that some people have a model with a different prop. One guy who contacted me seemed to have a different ESC as standard, so there might be a more recent version out there?

Thanks but it didn't work, in fact nothing works at all even when I had a senior RC technician try we got nowhere. I had to buy another ESC.

@PaulGarbettNZ8 жыл бұрын
+Frank R. Pilot Just repeat the process again to switch the brake off and allow the prop to free spin. Note: a slow spinning prop acts as an airbrake - which can be useful for landing.

@PaulGarbettNZ9 жыл бұрын
Hi. The weight of my plane seems to be totally sorted now, and I think it was mostly because of the glue and wingtips I added which seem to 'add weight' to the tail somehow. I also have the battery as far back as I can get it. I have heard of others removing the little stand for the battery and sticking it directly onto the fuselage. See how you go.
@powernumpty9 жыл бұрын
Paul Garbett I replaced the spinner with an alloy one (damaged the original straightening the clamp) so made it even more nose heavy, had a 1500mah battery a the back of the tray but going across the fuse, still had to put a £2 coin on the tail. Moved to a 2200mah behind the tray kept in place by some epo partly wedged under the upper tray, took the tail weight off and it's OK now.
