@3DGladiator3 жыл бұрын
As far as I'm aware, nothing currently stops others from stealing, minting and listing your work. This is a problem. Not only on the seller's but also on the buyer's side. In case you want to buy something, do your research first. When an artwork gets stolen, the platform should be able to block the wallet from which the NFT is listed. This way it's no longer available.

Now I understand why NFTs are the future of digital music. If musicians sell their NFTs at reasonable prices + a royalty on resell, record companies will go fully extinct... only to be replaced by NFT "taste" brands/collectives. Regarding the oracle problem and musicians, no one can fake new material from an original musician. Bootlegging has always existed with rare and unreleased songs. In the case of the musician, bootleg NFTs would boost the presence of said musician so much that when they create a new/exclusive token, the value of the token will be exponentially higher than their first few NFTs. When it comes to illustrations and graphic design, however... I would never spend over $30 on (XX)MB of 10100101. I would, however, spend >$1k on physical canvas oil paintings. Hi thanks for the video! A few questions please: What happens to copy rights when you sell ownership? 1. In case of copyrighted material by you, can you still use your art as you wish and give licence usage to others? 2. In case you want to have it as creative commons for free usage with credits to you, can you still sell the *original* as NFT? Thank you very much for your help!
@jfbarnard31093 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what you want the NFT to represent. It's an open system, so if you want the NFT to have legal value, you simply have to follow copyrights laws. If you want to sell a single full ownership of the work, then you actually sold your ownership and can no longer license the work to others. If you want to represent licenses through an NFT framework, you can sell a few of them, and keep selling non-cryptographic licenses as you would normally. You can always sell NFTs as collector items as well with limited supply and no legal right. In this case, it leads to the same result as selling an mp3 for example. Difference is, now people have a way to prove they own the mp3, resell it at the price they want with no intermediaries, etc. The data of the mp3 can always be duplicated, but the NFT representing ownership of the mp3 cannot
@KrazyIndeed3 жыл бұрын
If, and only if, you copyright your material, you own ALL of it, by law. You can do whatever you want with it. If you sell a license for others to sell your material, or use it in a game or movie, you are going to write a contract. You can sell an 'exclusive' license meaning only they can market the material, or a 'non-exclusive'.. Those are details in the contract you negotiate. You can still use your own materials whenever you want to... Should you sell your COPYRIGHT, you are selling all rights to your material and lose all ownership of it.
@jfbarnard31093 жыл бұрын

Naw, this is like the past but worse. All this does is create a privatized copyright system like we had 50 years ago. Where you actually had to physically send in a copy your artwork and pay bureaucrat to register a copyright. Something that was remedied by the dmca, and several American supreme Court precidents. nowadays if you make artwork and Disney steals it you can sue them for millions of dollars without ever really registering a copyright. If this nft system works as well as people say it does. It's just going to create an arms race between art thieves and various degrees of wealthy to poor artists spending as much as they can on funny money to turn their artwork into nfts. It's like the old copyright system. Accept instead of paying a government official who is at least accountable. You're paying some unaccountable company in one of the most unregulated finance sectors on Earth.

@@yemo34 you can still do that, this is to sell original pieces, off course that if you sell the original and disney copies it the owner of the original can sue disney, but thats the reason they are paying quite a big amount of money... I am a traditional illustrator/painter who has just gotten into the NFT space recently. What are your thoughts on tying an actual, physical element, i.e. the original drawing or painting to an NFT? Or, in in the case of offering a series of limited edition NFT's, each initial purchaser would receive a high end print of the work as well...? Much like Picasso's Bull, which was a physical painting, it was then digitized, animated, then converted to a few different series of limited edition NFT's. As a traditional artist, I'm still looking to have the original physical art/print as part of the NFT buying experience, as for me, the original art holds a ton of value. But being that we're dealing with a global audience on the blockchain, does this even seem feasible? Interested to hear your thoughts. Great video, thanks for putting this together.

Thanks for your comment Daniel. Gas fees are indeed crazy high at the moment as miners are extremely busy. I suggest installing the Ethereum Gas Price extension for Chrome to stay up to date as prices change hourly. This helps you spot a time during the day when transaction costs are reasonable. Is it okay to list on more than one site? As far as I know once you sell a 1/1 collection you're not allowed to sell it again. Wouldn't this cause a conflict of ownership if it were to sell on one site while being listed on another?
@ecrianzavaziere88623 жыл бұрын
it depends. i create lots of 1/1 and i list it on most sites before its sold. most of my collectors prefer more display/showcasing so i just unlist it but still keep on other sites (remove from sale)

nft's are a type of crypto token that can be bought and sold, if someone is buying your art in the form of an nft, chances are they're expecting that they can resell it at a higher price later. So to answer your question, there is more resale value for the buyer. It's the difference between putting your art in a gallery (and charging people to see it) and selling that art to someone directly, wherein it becomes theirs to re-sell or hold.

i dont really saw any form of confirmation that you are really the owner of the art. what prevents people from stealing art and put it on the site ?
@3DGladiator3 жыл бұрын
You have to keep in mind that the artwork/token is located in your software wallet. As long as you don't sell it, it's yours. Listing on marketplaces only displays it there. The thing is, nothing prevents people from stealing your work by simply taking a screenshot and tokenize it somewhere else. This is also why it is so important to research before you buy and to make sure that you purchase from the actual creator and not just from someone who claims to be the artist.

Wow. These prices are way out of the means of most creators to be able to prove that they do indeed have copyright on their own work. There is so much theiving going on with digital works and POD I was hoping to be able to follow this process to protect myself....too bad most artists will never be able to afford this and continue having their works ripped off with very few ways to defend themselves :(
