Hi! This is another top quality video: great subject, excellent filming with both views, and useful commentary. I still have to improve my touch-typing technique to be as fluid and accurate as you are. Thanks for doing them! Daniel

Where do you get all these beautiful standard sized typewriters? I’m so jealous 😊

This SG3 was in a sorry state when it was found, it had been dropped and the casework was damaged, platen knob smashed and rod bent, the carriage was off its rails and bearings were loose, there was also quite a lot of dirt and corrosion throughout the mechanism and it was completely seized, the tabulator wasn't working, nor the double character spacing mechanism. With experience and patience we rescued, repaired and restored it back to fine operational condition once again, adding our company colour (British Racing Green) to refinish the damaged casework, this was one of our early projects and has become our main office typewriter at FWVT, performing flawlessly ever since! These machines are so well made with top quality materials, they can survive the harshest of conditions and still be brought back to life. In an age of disposable goods, it's satisfying to repair and restore things that were made properly from the outset 😊

@@theshorthandtypist oh! Again i thought it was for sale. 😂 Have been looking for a good standard sized typewriter but i don’t have time to tinker with typewriters. I just love typing on them, using them. My next mission now is to find a good standard sized or electric one as don’t own an electric yet. Anyway just some wishful thinking and rambling. 😂

I can type 120 words per minute, I need one.

That's a very high speed on a typewriter 👍

Are the standard size typewriters easier to type on?
@theshorthandtypist7 ай бұрын
Great question! They can be, however much has to do with the design of the typewriter itself. One main benefit from a larger standard typewriter is that they are very stable and tend not to move when in use, the raised platen position is also nearer to the line of sight. They sometimes include extra features such as paper injectors, which were all intended to save the professional typist as much time as possible. In terms of touch, some can be light and some heavier, as with portables. Semi portables tend to be a combination of the two, combining some features of the standards into a more compact design.

Yes they are because it takes less effort to put a great imprint on the page because they have bars underneath the typewriter that gives more mechanical advantage
