Thanks for the video. Wow, I'm going to have to redo the door jambs I've done. Mine are a mess, and I need to get that tool before I destroy the rest of the house. I was using the japanese pull saw (what a pain that is) and I don't know if the blade got dull right away but I couldn't get deep enough under the jamb.

Roberts makes a jamb saw just for this (with a circular blade and adjustable height foot). A reciprocating saw is ok to do a few with but it's loud and quite slow. Bits are also expensive and as you see in the video as they begin to dull they'll burn the wood and cutting gets even slower. For a one time diy-er this is a great instructional video though. Good job!

Project help needed! I hope you or a subscriber can assist me. I have a formica countertop which is a one piece, countertop and backsplash, similar to the ready made countertops at the big box stores. It looks dated to me and I want to keep the countertop, cut off the backsplash, seal and epoxy the countertop and finally, tile the wall. Would this tool be good for a flush cut and removal of the backsplash? Thanks so much!

Do you take the trim off or just cut the door jam and then use 1/4 round to cover the gap between the laminate and the trim? Great video thanks for the advice. what do you do with the opposite problem? I have old floors to replace which will create a large gap between the door casing and flooring. Same problem with the baseboards, a large gap between the flooring and baseboard.

If its deeper, dont cut that deep. Cut it shallow and knock it out.

Please help! I am doing the same thing as you and the it is not cutting the wood at all. It's a brand new tool. It's vibrating but not cutting... I'm putting slight pressure on it and it doesnt cut. What am I doing wrong?

I guess you could use the same technique for the baseboard but it would take quite a bit of time. We normally either pull the baseboard off and then reattach it once the flooring is down (which requires touch up work like caulking and painting) or just run the flooring close to the baseboard and then tack some shoe moulding or quarter round onto the lower part of the baseboard to hide the gap which requires less touch up work than pulling the baseboard and reattaching it.

People will say scribe and silicone, but really, with most floating floors, it voids manufacturers' warranties. This method restricts a floating floors ability to expand and retract. You're probably better off with a direct stick LVT if a house has steel door frames.

You have to cut door gem or pillar before laying the under lay cover. because dust can get in to the under lay inside then you are in trouble after laying the floor.

I did notice a small gap between flooring and door casing. For perfection you need to consider the cutting blade thickness and come up with a tool support thinner than your flooring by this amount. If it's an inexpensive rental it wouldn't matter.

Will use the utility knife trick if I can get it flush. Bosch for pros, and I too have a $20 Harbor Freight which is all you need for DIY'er. I think the blade is the most important choice, as I found out when I replaced a 10" 80 tooth Diablo blade with a new one. Cuts are like night and day. Can't overemphasize tossing you $50 blade and putting up a smoke screen of burned wood in the house or backyard. Never again will I make that mistake.

Seems to me it would be better to reduce the thickness of the scrap piece used as a guide first. Run it through a planer to reduce thickness equivalent to the kerf of the blade.
