In this video, I show you a simple approach to fill your empty Benzomatic propane tanks multiple times. You never need to throw out old tanks again. All you need is this simple trick. Backyard Scientist just made a good comment, the original adaptor can’t be found. However I just dug up a link for US stock with free shipping here:

Ps- must be done outside in a well ventilated area. No flames or sparks. Please wear protective gear when doing this otherwise don’t try this until you have protective apparel.

Put the large filler tank in the SUN, sitting on top of a BLACK surface. Place the small reciever tank inside your FREEZER. Simmer/Freeze both, for at least one hour. Then, the transfer flow will behave, MUCH better). (Notes: 1.Always start with a FULL source fill tank. 2.Don't tilt fill tank past 90 degrees. If you tilt fill tank over too far, it's internal OPD, (Overfill Prevention Device), will sometimes close off output flow.) 3. On GREEN propane bottles, if your adventurous, on top of the receiving bottle is a tiny filling bleeder valve, (it looks like a tire fill valve). During filling, pull UP on it. It will release gaseous propane, thus allowing more space in the bottle for liquid to fill. Stop filling when straight liquid propane begins to exit the bleeder. (ONLY DO THIS OUTDOORS and AWAY from any open FLAMES. Wear PPE EYE protection and GLOVES. WHY? The bleeding GASEOUS propane temperature is DEEP SUB-ZERO, about minus 43 DEGREES C & F, and can cause instant freeze skin BURNS! THAT'S WHY!)

Yeah that’s really good advice! I always felt uncomfortable about sticking a large propane tank out in the sun and overheating it but I guess that’s the way they are designed. It only took me a few minutes to fill up the tanks shown in the video but like you said they would probably fill even quicker if the big tank was heated prior to the fill. I didn’t realize there was a safety valve inside the bigger tanks. It didn’t seem to interfere that much though with my fill process.

You need bleeder screw to remove purge air, so propane comes out of bleeder.

Shouldn't use any tools that can create a spark. Other than that,I've refilled for years and never had a problem.

You should at least have a disclaimer how organizations like the Hazardous Materials Safety Administrations from US DOT have reported several hazmat incidents and a fatality from refilling 1lb propane tanks. Hydrocarbons are, after all, the leading causes of hazmat incidents. It appears these types of tanks aren’t made for the stress of emptying and refilling. Of course people are gonna do what they want which makes sense but I don’t think you should be telling people you haven’t had any issues with refilling these tanks when they ask if it’s dangerous because this does involve some risk with high consequences. It’s great you’re sharing your hack for others but you a should be more informative of the possible dangers so that others make their most educated decisions
