How to Unlock and lock the Carriage of Hermes 3000 Typewriter & Margin Setup

This Video is a simple guide on how to unlock the Carriage lock of the Hermes 3000 Typewriter which applies to Hermes 2000 and Hermes Media 3 Typewriters.
Then it will be showing how to lock the Carriage again.
finally, it will show how we can setup the margins on the Hermes Typewriters from both sides.
In this video, we used our newly Chrome plated Hermes 3000 Typewriter that also had a new platen fitted.

I knew there had to be a way, and I figured out the left margin, noticing that the red indicator moved, but I had trouble setting the right margin, and was afraid of pushing too many leavers as I an very new to this. So your video was a lifesaver. Thank you so much!

My carriage only moves from the middle to the left, but not to the right, even when I press the lever down or when I press the "two arrows" button. Does anyone have the same problem and fixed it?

I think that means that your right margin is set too far to the middle. Try to reset the right margin just like they show in the video. I had the same problem but then I reset the right margin.

Ok, I set the margins. The right one seemed stuck. Now it’s free. But I have no tension on the carriage, as it won’t advance when I type or hit tab. ??? Thanks!

Might be different reasons. Including tension , tab key getting stuck , or mechanism is stuck ☺️

@@MrMrsVintageTypewriters I had to apply a bit of force to get the right margin to free up. When I did this the band popped off. I took the carriage off and I think I’ve got it rewound - tensioned - correctly. Everything seems to work correctly. Thanks

Kindly note that the Hermes 2000 Margins shouldn’t be pressed hard. It’s kind of half press. Check out website we have the original manual or happy to send it by email. Cheers

Every time I think I’ve set the left margin correctly with the red indicator where I want it, when I hit the line spacer lever, the carriage stops at about an inch away from the right margin with the bell ringing. If I use force, I can get the carriage to move back to where the red line indicates I set the margin at 15, but I don’t want to force it. Do you have any suggestions for me as to what is going on?
