Hey everybody, here's my guide breaking down the fleeces currently available in the Cult of the Lamb, recommending which one you should unlock first and breaking down how the Golden Fleece, despite its NERF & Rebalance, is still the best in the game.

gotta love how one of the golden fleece balancing ideas is "make everything else overpowered too"

But the thing is nothing is over powered. The other fleeces are terrible in comparison and I think the Golden Fleece is actually very balanced. You loose all your increased damage if you take a hit. It’s high risk high reward. You also take double damage so on the hardest difficulty you can only get hit twice before you’re sent back to the cult. How is that overpowered?

@@superneles It is an actual skill issue. The better you are at the game and dodging everything, the more you can retain the stacks until you're unstoppable one shooting everything. Even should all that progress be lost, you are still able to make up for the loss by killing.

@@AzureSapphires But that's a skill issue of the player, I don't think you should be punished for being good at the game, again I believe the fleece has enough balance, the issue really lies in the fact none of the other fleeces even compare to the current version of the golden fleece. so should the golden fleece be trash? No, I think the others need significant buffs.

The Fleece of the Fates is actually good for the very first time you go to a new area, since it’s only 3 rooms and there’s no endless option, so you probably won’t get up to 4 tarot cards normally. So my normal progression is to rush the Fates first and use it for the first runs of Anura, Anchordeep and Silk Cradle, then switch back to normal or Golden for later/endless runs.

That’s a fair use for it but yeah outside of those initial delves in the areas it’s not as useful. I still hope MM updates the fleeces in a coming update. They did announce their next big update will be combat focused so maybe we will see some fleece tuning in that update

That's why white fleece is amazing early game/before you get endless mode.

flece of fates is good alco for narander bossfight and i think it is even best flece for narender bossfight

I’d like all fleeces to be the same, but better than the fleece of the lamb, Rather than trying to make all fleeces equal (including fleece of the lamb) It’s weird because it takes time to get the holy talisman and I barely use the other different fleeces

Sorry if my wording was awkward because I feel we agree the upgraded fleeces should all be improvements and be comparable to each other. Like right now I don’t see any reason to really use anything outside of the Golden Fleece and maybe the glass cannon fleece.

They could remove the increased Damage to yourself. Starting damage is -100%, each hit increases the damage by 100%, if you get damaged or leave the room, this gets a reset. Essentially this helps on rooms with many enemies or a boss/miniboss.

My fav is the fleece of the glass cannon. Getting the homing shots can also instakill kallamar but with a lower downside (diseased hearts and blue hearts don't get halved but golden fleece takes still double damage). It's especially useful on the hardest difficulity where some enemies can get really difficult so spamming curses on them will work like a charm. The triple shot is also really fun. Also, the one diseased heart per tarot card works really well with vampiric weapons. You get a tarot card, you heal yourself back up, the diseased heart is down and you take 1-3 damage until you get a new diseased heart. The fleece of feral fortitude is as op as the difficulity youre playing on. The best on asy mode and the worst on super hard mode (especially if you sacrificed half your heart to that stupid fox demon you dumdum). The 4 tarot card fleece is for having fun. You just get that and rush for killing a bishop... to learn move patterns or just to have fun.

I’d recommend the white cloak because it does 10 damage for a weapon, and you have to get the rainbow card like any one

I think something like option 2 would be good for the Fleece of the Glass Cannon. Make it really live up to it's name by making you do really high damage but at the risk of a quick death. at the high end I was thinking a one hit one kill setup. Where you can one shot any enemy but any enemy can one shot you. the most important thing is change it to general damage.

I don't think the golden fleece is bad, but it just doesn't fit my play style. I like to test my luck with tarot cards, so I usually pick the fleece of the fates.

That’s fair. I just find in it’s current state the Golden Fleece is the overall best choice, the other fleeces need to be improved especially if this game is going to have longevity, IMO

not exactly an issue with the golden fleece, it is a high risk high reward fleece, if you'd rather more consistent the glass canon fleece is there, though it's a flat increase and cannot exceed the highs of the golden fleece

I never used any of the fleeces because they just didn’t seem useful or worth it. It all would dampen my progress, especially that golden fleece. TRY NOT TO TAKE DAMAGE? I wouldn’t be able to!

Honestly original Golden Fleece was worth it especially if you can avoid damage for a few hits as it just snowballs into a one shot god. But the rest of the fleeces need work

I actually went from the golden fleece to the glass cannon because I typically would get mad if I got hit at all during the run rather than being happy with the damage multiplier but I would also die too easy. Obviously a skill issue but mainly because some weapons can't keep up with fast enemies.

Completely understandable, I am hoping their big combat update fixes a lot of the issues I outlined about the fleeces, they should all be fun and honestly I want to be able to choose between any fleece and not feel like I'm stagnating

@@superneles For the fleece of fates, they should make it so that it gives two cards per miniboss/boss kill and every card draw is a choice between two

I like the purple fleece. Somewhat useless after you get the upgrade that lets you start with deceased heart. I wear it just as a cool alt. I rarely ever die, and if i die where i am in the game i would lose .1% of what i have

Haven’t unlocked it yet but I plan to do an updated video on the fleeces, I think it’ll likely be Golden Fleece since it has less inherent risk but obviously 10 times damage is big, especially with a weapon like the hammer or axe.

I simply can't agree with getting Gold Fleece as the first fleece. It's powerful, but turns you into a true glass cannon, which I feel for less skilled players could be setting too high of an expectation. As someone who's fairly good, but notoriously over-aggressive at times, I first tried the Fleece of the Fates, running the assumption it would give me 4 Tarot card CHOICES like when drawing them from Clauneck rather than just 4 random ones (which I could see as a potential buff idea, but I really like yours too). Afterwards, I got the Fleece of the Diseased Heart since I felt like I could utilize it for increased survivability. I proceeded to play through the rest of the game without getting martyred once (Though Calimar came very close). The issue of not being able to get a diseased heart if you already have one is easily sidestepped by just... not drawing a tarot card and moving on with the current level, THEN go back and draw a tarot card if you either lose the diseased heart or reach the end of the current level.

Totally understand your points, I think going glass cannon isn't an issue though seeing as, most of the difficulties are currently pretty forgiving. I believe you have some serious s unless playing on the hardest difficulty. I agree with a potential buff with your idea on the fleece of fates, hopefully the upcoming combat patch/dlc will see some of these improvements, thanks for commenting!

it would be realistic in cult of the lamb logic to allow players to get infinite golden fleece damage because players who are able to get it to levels that high in my opinnion would be considered to be gods and "gods" are powerful

i think that's totally acceptable but i often have no issue finding tarot cards on my run so I don't need to get 4 out the gate, but definitely a nice tool for the lazy cult leaders :D

I think it’s current state is fairly balanced. But it’s still the best choice IMO versus all other fleeces. I hope with the upcoming combat update that they really flesh out and increase the power/utility of the other fleeces.

@@Vankcellup yeah it looks like I encountered my first bug as well, I think I got a soft lock on a follower forms since I "beat" the DLC and now I can't roll for follower forms with god tears anymore just supplies and necklaces...

I feel like no matter what the Golden Fleece will be seen as the most useful when played well because of one, simple, unchangeable fact. Everything is on a timer. The day/night cycle, followers needs and ages, the works, all marching along the endless expanse of time. The Golden Fleece fills the need of a way to speed up that process without overly specializing or relying too much on tarot rng. I just wish that it stacked properly(on switch at least idk anything else) with lobbed spells and ichor kills. Stuff like rocks falling on them I’m fine with not adding, but come *on*, it hurts to have a lobbed spell and have to hope you don’t do too much until you swing or get to out right replace it

Yeah. I’m hoping with the up coming combat update (coming “soon”™️) that the fleeces are revisited and all rebalanced. But we will see.
