Amazing work for Automation Engineer to understand IO link. But after replacing analogue sensor in PLC card, we don't need to put analogue configuration again to the card. Do we? Very confused.

Hi Mark, thanks for the question and the kind feedback! To enable IO-Link with an IO-Link compatible sensor, you would replace the analog card with an IO-Link card and then re-configure the sensor. Does that answer your question?

I would like to send count data from photoelectric sensors to a cloud based platform. Will IFM IO-Link and Simatic cc716 be sufficient or will I need to add a controller to the infrastructure?

Hi, Thanks for the question! For highly specific application questions like this one, I always recommend that you talk to an applications engineer at the hardware manufacturers who can go through your requirements in detail and make specific recommendations.

Nice Video! But it still needs quite some investment to replace the existing analog sensors in factory with one that support IO Link. So its not something you would be able to implement in a existing infrastructure before replacing sensors to smart sensors with IO link capability. But i agree compared to field bus, IO link offers a cost effective way to replace analog sensor with smart sensors and avoid the hassle of trouble shooting and signal losses.

Can analog scaling be NIST traceable?

Thanks for the question! My understanding of NIST is that it has more to do with the calibration of equipment than the scaling of values, so the scaling in the PLC would not be NIST traceable. Hope this helps!

Sounds good till you found out the customer restrictions on their EIP device setup structures where you cannot match the IOlink data types without making them to change their data structure. That's where the real pain is
