The chain trick is slick. I picked up a small chain at the farm store that comes in a plastic pail, and zip tied the pail to the back of the splitter so there's a handy place to keep it with the splitter all the time.

Hi Chris, the chain works good, but like I have mentioned before on your channel, a nylon tree strap works too, with less risk to scoring the hydraulic cylinder. The tree strap is also lighter and more compact to store.

I have been using that method for years to get off a knot that was stuck on the splitter. I figured if it had enough power to get it stuck, it should have enough power to pull it off. It takes a little while to do it but once you hook it up, it is instant. Great advise to those who don't know about it. My 4 way just slides off the main wedge, so we then just lift it off and use the main wedge. It pretty much cuts through most pieces. It is great to work with someone that knows what they are doing and has the same work ethic as you.

Hi Chris. Good video as always. On my wallenstein one day a log got stuck and thanks to one of your previous videos I remembered the chain trick, and it came right out. But my wallenstein I didn't have to take out my 4 way wedge like you to put 2 way, I just had to drop my 4 way all the way down and there is my 2 way. Lol!

Chris ~ I just learned last week on my own...that using the single wedge for Bigger Chunks & rounds was much better than with the 4-way. PLus the added bonus from this Ah Ha experience was less waste build-up underneath the splitter. Hi, that's the way I unstick the occasional nasty wood on my 12-22. But I use a nylon strap because a chain would damage the finish and if I chip off the paint it'll rust. A strap won't hurt as bad if it slips and whaps me in the face and my face needs all the help it can get! lol Also, I put a cheap tarp down to collect the little pieces of wood before I start splitting. That way it's easy to clean up and I use it for kindling. (The wood, not the tarp) But I just cut and split to heat my house. You, on the other hand, are mass producing firewood. My next move is to try and experiment with soy wax to make fire starter. Shalom/gw

Nice setup. Much of the split pieces are what I would consider almost kindling for my free standing stove. Anything through about 5 inches I burn whole. Larger through about a foot is only quartered. Much less processing than what you have to go through for your customers.

Hi Chris from East Tennessee. Today it was 75 degrees. It has been a crazy warm winter down here!! Well I moved a ton of dry firewood that I did not burn this winter. Mostly over 2 year old oak. I stacked this wood together in 2 rows with no space in between. It’s dry already so I was moving it off my garden spot. Trying to do a bigger garden this year! Something to think about when buying a splitter we have one with the push plate on the rod and one with the wedge on the rod. I like the wedge on the rod for big rounds so you don't have to keeping bringing the log back into place you can chip away at it. And it has push-off plates by the handle to push off a stuck round. Your style is nice when the log needs one split and onto the conveyor. Pros and cons to both styles. And yes i have a dimple on one rod that was sanded down and epoxyed and before long it will probly rip the seal out of the cylinder again. A very expensive brain fart!

Here in Finland we have a small snake called kyy, it´s a subspecies of viper wich is relative of rattlesnake. Sometimes they like to hide in woodpiles and they are very unwelcome surprises tough they are quite harmless to adult person. I guess it´s a different story with rattlesnake. Hi Kristian I don’t live in Wisconsin like Chris but in central New York State which is several hundred miles east. We do have big rattle snakes in the eastern part of the state exclusively in the remote areas of the mountains. They are definitely big enough to kill an adult if not treated soon after being bit. They are rare, in fact, they may be an endangered species. Personally, I wouldn’t mind having a couple around my wood stacks to take care of all the mice that like to build their nests in them. 😊

If you are working 59 hours a week at your job and doing family stuff, I vote for the E.m. Axis instead. If you have no job, family or other hobbies then stick with what you are using.

If your using homeowner saws I would say go to pro series first to make cutting faster then go with a faster splitter. All depend on what you value your time as too. If you have friends and family that help 7 cord can easily be done in a weekend with 4 people with your splitter.

Appreciate the feedback. Being retired it’s not as much about time as it is about the saving my back and body. I’ve realized if I’m going to buy something it’s worth getting it sooner rather than later. But it is not cheap. I’m good on power heads (ms 661 and ms500i)

@adam link then you should look at something with a log lift for bigger stuff and can use it as a staging table for smaller stuff that is easy to pick up. Some of the bigger rounds in the pile we were splitting off of weight over 60lbs.

Chris you want another trick about the chain . See the 45 degree metal behind your push plate get Bert welder a chain hook onto the 45 pc . That way you won’t hurt your push rod out from the cycle. Them dirty tuff block take the chainsaw at it time run half cut into them . When it come to the wood splitter be ready to split . Chris don’t be hit your control valve . Teach your yourself to open the valve at slow speed . Like to drop dirty from a big cat loader into dump do that , your in for a ride in the cab . All valve work the same in or out , right to left , and up or down . Practice same as tractor Chris . Bert not a bad operator probably give you some tricks ( practice is the keys ) . Why pin in the single wedge? 4 way I understand. I’d just weld another button on each side of the single wedge at the highest pin hole point. Another thing I just found out about the axis twin beam frame…here I thought that was a design eastonmade came up with. Come to find out Cord King has been using the design for years. Burt is a machinist? Like a hands on old school maintenance or cnc programmer?

I do. I take my husband while he kicks and screams to the warm water therapy lap pool. He has great difficulty climbing steps and walking. I have him hang onto me as he walks forward and backward; does squats, sumo squats, one legged lunges, butterflies or clams, high knees, side steps, side step one legged lunges, crunches, crab walks, and crossovers. This is the result of jumping out of perfectly good helicopters in Vietnam. After an hour of listening to the whining, he realizes that he feels better.

My duel split Splitfire is so easy to unstick. Because it splits both ways all that is needed is a piece of firewood as a block and then run the splitter the other way. I think the ultra and the 2265 Splitfire are very close competition.

When you switch to the single wedge I think the 2265 beats the ultra. With the 4 way the ultra wins.

Grade 7 or 8 (lifting chain) 1/4 inch or 5/16 inch probably do not need 3/8. Grade 7 will stretch a little , grade 8 will not it just pops and metal flys......(death by chain)

Look, I'm no cat guy, but some stupid cat came into my house thru the doggy door and immediately buddied up with my 100 pound dog. He wouldn't leave, now I'm a cat owner. I thought the dog was supposed to eat him. Anyway, I got a cat and now I know about some cat stuff. BTW, I wanted to call the cat Bernie, cuz he just showed up,and now he gets free housing, food, healthcare etc. Looking forward to 1000. Keep it up.

It is harder using a hydraulic log splitter than a little effort using a splitting maul! Weak people who can't swing a maul use hydraulic log splitters!!

Really?? I produce 600 face cords a year, I'm 60 and I work 80 hours every week between my 3 businesses the last year I was a man was 5 years ago when I cut and split 80 face cords by hand after 45 years of splitting wood, now it is just for fun but no real money can be made hand splitting.

I've proved over a dozen time's that ive won bets with my splitting maul v.s people I know with hydraulic log splitters. That's how I have 2 hydraulic log splitters next to my shop when I beat them in splitting wood for an entire day😊😁
