How to Update CFW on a Jailbroken PS3

Need to update your firmware version on your PS3 to the latest release? Wanting to try out another custom firmware? There's been some confusion over the process since making a few jailbreak tutorials, but thankfully this tutorial has you covered! Updating or switching your CFW on a jailbroken PS3 is quite easy to do, all you need is your new CFW of choice and a flash drive formatted to FAT32 to install the new CFW from!
This tutorial does assume you have already jailbroken your PS3 and have a basic understanding of how to do it. This will NOT work if your PS3 is not jailbroken and this tutorial is not intended for HAN or HEN consoles. Following this tutorial on a PS3 running official firmware will not jailbreak it. If you would like to jailbreak your console, follow the link further down in the description!

Went from Kmeaw 3.55 to Rebug 4.86.1 lite.... So sketchy. It finished copying the update and my screen went blank, nothing for 20 mins straight. I thought either it switched to rca or I bricked it. I ended up yolo'ing it and hit the power switch and turned it back on. It went through the restore screen and rebooted into rebug. That was a scary experience.

Hey Mario, firstly thank you for the awesome videos and tuts! Now I've got quick question(s) :) I bought a second hand jailbroken PS3 that has a bunch of homebrew apps and data/folders on it. I would like to wipe *everything* and install the latest rebug firmware to start from a clean slate. To do it can I just: 1. Run 'Restore PS3 System' from XMB menu to format HDD & wipe all data 2. Install new firmware with steps described in this video (i hope this tut is still relevant?) Are these 2 steps the correct way to go about it? Will running 'Restore PS3 System' before new firmware install cause any issues?

I’m on rebug 4.86, I hadn’t used my ps3 in ages, when I just tried a bunch of the games say there’s a time limit and I need to set the time via the internet to verify (the cmos issue that was being shown off a while ago) Anyway I can’t set the time via the the internet without signing in and I can’t do that without updating but there’s no rebug 4.88 that I can see. Hi Mario, It has been some time since this video, I would like to upgrade to the latest firmware and custom firmware, my ps3 is already jailbroken. On the site you shared on firmware update 4.85 + Cobra 8.1, there is written "Can be installed on 3.55 OFW or on 4.85 OFW using ps3xploit". does this mean that my base ofw 4.75 cannot be upgraded using this pup? So I know this doesn't relate to the video but after I jailbreaked my ps3 it got turned off improperly one time, so when I turned it back on again it showed the disclaimer saying that I turned it off improperly and that I should do a scan or whatever so I did and ever since then the multiman tool doesn't work whenever I use it, it just shows a black screen and doesn't respond.

you cant play online with 4.82 , Most of people are update to 4.84 so after you update use psn patch latest update and install then you good to go
