And now my question for proxmox is why don't they do this for default for non-subscription users? It isn't like they lose anything for you updating your machine.

everything works accept for the last step. I got the following error W: GPG error: download.proxmox.com/debian jessie InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY C23AC7F49887F95A E: The repository 'download.proxmox.com/debian jessie InRelease' is not signed. N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

Your version is newer than in the video. You will need to change jessie to buster
