Hi Paul, its Wayne from Affordable Mobile TV Repair in Va Beach. Thanks for your continuing service to the KZbin community for the last 10 years. I would like to add a few tips that your readers may find helpful when dealing with Sony F/W updates. Only use 2-8gb memory sticks. Anything larger may cause the loading process to time out. Also the quality of the stick matters. Use only sticks like Samsung, Sandisk Verbatim, Kingston etc.. and we down lode at lease 2 different sticks (2, 4,8gb) per tv repair update. And be very patient. It can take up to 3-4 try's before Sony's finicky F/W loads and up to 8 hours to have a successful down load. We have repaired hundreds of Sony sets over the last several years and I'm not a big fan of Sony's overall S/W design they use in their XBR series of sets. Their non XBR series sets are usually plug and play when replacing the main board. I am in the process of updating my website to add a section of tech tips that we have experienced over the last several years for all manufactures that we have repaired. @@ryanw9051 I'm in the same boat. Already tried the "pushing the power and volume down buttons til the led light at the bottom turns green, then letting go" reset. My light turns green, but then my TV goes back to the reboot loop. No reset screen comes on.

Hello Sir! Love your videos! Question: Sony XBR-65X850C - apparently Firmware Update failed before it was completed. Now the TV tries to boot up, displays the four Android icons, and in less than 15-20 seconds shuts down and reboots, REPEAT. We have tried the “Power Off > Hold Power Button for 15 - 20 seconds reset. Did not change behavior. Btw, no status light blinking. I haven’t been able to find a repair shop yet. Should I replace the board with the USB and HDMI ports?

Thanks for the clear instructions. I couldn't get my TV to install the firmware from USB. The instructions from Sony don't say that you need to place the file itself into the root folder and don't tell you to name the drive Sony Update. After I did both, the firmware finally updated. Thanks man!

If I download the .bin file to USB only (without the Folder) nothing happens at all. If I download the Folder and insert USB TV says "Update cannot be done using this USB"

Hi two important points that I didn't catch onto at first. 1. Your download may not be a zip or compresses file. Mine was .p09 Not an archive so i just copied that. 2. VERY IMPORTANT. My tv has 2 usb ports. Only one will work for update. I spend hours in reboot loop until I put in other usb port and it worked immediately.

Question - if you swap new mainboard then do you get any image or black screen until firmware update ? Because i did swap on sony xbr-65a8f but is black screen now the TV start working but only amber lights is white. Thanks ! There is not any video to show if you swap the board will get immediately image on the screen and from where i got the board they told me i MUST upgrade the firmware.

Hi tampa love your vids. I have a sony xbr-55x900e and it has a the famous green and pink stripes. Has sound and I can hear functions like volume turn up and down, Setup sound music and the remote still works. backlights look good. The tv is out of warranty. Any repair advice?

Question: I am able to updates directly from my 75Z9D "Update Software" menu selection, but no matter what I do, they won't actually burn to firmware after powering off then back on as directed in the instructions. I've tried unplugging and holding the power button down for 30 sec and everything else I can think of. Do you know of a trick to force the firmware to update after it's been successfully downloaded ? I ended up resorting to this USB load procedure in the end. Thanks !

I Found a Bravia 55ex710 and it looked to good to leave lol. i diagnosed it and changed the main board. and Now the optical light is on. no more red blinking lights, but now their green and orange. They said you have to do a software update but sony terminated theupdate. do you know another place i can get it from?

Hey Tampa Tec - I suspect you aren't in Tampa right now with the Hurricane and all... I have a Sony KDL-50 W800B and just replaced the main board, the LED is flashing green amber, but the screen doesn't light. Sony doesn't support that TV any longer with firmware. I have just seen this TV that will not hold digital terrestrial channels after scanning in auto tune. It shows one channel but when you go to the TV Guide it says no channels are in memory and goes to the tuning menu. After tuning I go back and it returns to the No Channels in memory screen and offers to tune again. Any Ideas? Dose it have a 3V cell inside like on a mother board for backup? It is setup for Netflix so it seems to operate that part.

@Tampatec many thanks for providing such informational videos, unfortunately my Sony Bravia 55” is stuck in a reboot loop in welcome screen. Reboot loop persists even after Factory data reset. Do you have a video that helps to update firmware for tv stuck in reboot loop? Reboot started suddenly when I tried to Chromecast a you tube video, though I never faced this problem while Chromecasting from you tube before The tv doesn’t provide any red blinks, my daughter who is trying to figure this out says it isn’t a hardware issue but a software one. Like somehow the tv still thinks it’s trying to connect to Chromecast even after factory reset Any advice on this? Happy to provide a video link of the issue

I have a Sony KDL-50W800C which is stuck in a restart loop. I've tried both soft and hard resets, but can never get the LED to turn green. I found the latest firmware on Softpedia and downloaded it. Extracted the PKG file to the root of a FAT32-formatted flash drive. Renamed the file to upgrade_loader.pkg and renamed the flash drive to SONY UPDATE as shown in this video. I inserted the flash drive into my TV and plugged in the power. I'm now getting a graphic after the Sony logo that suggests not to unplug the TV, which leads me to believe that it is seeing the flash drive, but then it goes to the Google animation for a few seconds and resets the power as usual, going back to the Sony logo. Any idea what could be causing the TV to reboot?

My Sony KDL-40SL140 stopped responding to any remotes. I’ve unplugged it for hours to see if it would reset. It didn’t. When I plug it in the remote works for a few seconds but stops responding. I was going to update the firmware but Sony doesn’t have any updates. Is there someplace where I can get the last update they provided? It is an older unit but has been working until this happened. Interesting. So I bought this Android TV with model no KD75X8500E from a friend who brought it from Singapore and this was working well for a month but stopped working when I connected it to the internet for Netflix and after it had an Android update (the UI changed and I used it for a day and then it stopped working). I now turns on for a bit and switches off after like a few seconds and blinks 7 times. I asked the guy at the showroom and he said it's a motherboard fault and I need to get the board replaced. But this seems absurd to me because the TV does switch on and works fine for a bit and if it were a hardware issue, I suspect it wouldn't even function so this looks like the new Android OS doesn't work on this model (the showroom dude said TVs that have been imported have these issues as the update maybe of a different country). Is there any way I can rollback the update by running a manual update this way during bootup (because I doubt it will stay on till I go into it and then initiate update)? Or is there any other thing I can do to fix it? (I already tried a firmware reset using the steps on the manual but no luck).

@@jamesbutterworth8297 yeah I figure it out the problem was that it had a problem with one of the back lights. How I fixed it was by calceling the light that was damage by putting a small piece of clear tape on the flat wire the connets to the mother board. The problem got solved and it haa been working ever since.

Hey man. Great videos. I have a question. I have a sony xbr 75x850f and had an issue where my tv wouldn't power on at all. After troubleshooting I realized I needed to replace the main board which I did. Now it powers on but blinks a green and amber light but screen doesn't come on at all. I tried to put a usb drive with the correct firmware update in the usb drives but it eventually just powers off. I let it sit for a while to see if that was part of the process but nothing. How do you update the firmware when the screen is black. Sony 65X950G I’ve replace the power board and the main board and now the front white light comes on, but no picture and no sound. Hi I don’t know if you will see this but I followed the steps and my tv updated and finished the update but it still doesn’t support 4K 120fps on my Xbox series x my tv is the X900H

Have you had Any luck on achieving 120 at 4k as that is what I'm trying to figure out as well I have the 65 x900h and was going to do the usb update but if its not helping you any im not.

@@capt.H It works properly don’t worry, once the update finishes it has Dolby vision auto enabled, the tv won’t support 4K 120fps with Dolby vision turned on so you must turn it off to enable 120hz. To do that you must open settings, select Watching Tv, then select external inputs and choose the hdmi port you are using for your console and change it to the non Dolby vision enhanced format. Then it will enable 4K 120hz

another problem is that usb port in sony tv is very hard to plug-in (i mean physically) After the update, even i choose the "remove" button first before i eject my usb physically when i plug-in the usb to my pc again, it shows there is some damage to my usb, wtf for the Sony TV's design
