But only the maxi supports native mode-switching with the same firmware that is used for the mini. Strange that VIC-20 game support can only be enabled with custom firmware rather than official firmware.

Joystick did not work because not all c64 games are port 1 you had to swap the port in the system to port 2 :)

@@PattonPlays Just add _J1 to the filename and the game will work on the mini. This trick requires the latest firmware. So it would be MarioBros_J1.t64

My friend had the original breadbox with datacassette, took around an hour to load. I had the disk verson later, which was much quicker to load, but still took around a minute. Its much better to either use an emulator or oneof these, as the original hardware, especially disk drives and disks are totally knackered after 30+ years!

The C64 Maxi just arrived today. It's a great system, much better than the mini. I ordered from Grooves-Land. I paid $240 CAD, which is $170 USD. It's just like the mini, except it comes with a working keyboard, extra USB ports and a clicky joystick. Even though the joystick is better than the mini I still use the Buffalo gamepad to play the games.

I'm a fan of the C64 I have the Mini system, however I can't wait for the new full size version coming out. When the full size one comes I probably will put the mini on a shelf with my collection and play the full size one ;) But until then I will upgrade the firmware because I have ROMS I made from my old disk images. ;)

I was hoping that there was a better way to load multi disk games by now, but nope. Someone else already told you about swapping the joystick port, so there's that, too.

Yeah I don't know how that's done to be honest. I'm not really familiar with the system or how the disk swapping works. Not sure what emulator it's using...

what they dont tell you when u buy the mini is you must spend another $40 to get a better joystick/pad because the one that comes with it snaps,a usb keyboard and usb hub and maybe the games will work but dont count on it

Yeah I wasn't really happy with this joystick. Looks like they have new ones but they aren't for sale in the states.

Full size will not be available in the USA for many many months. It took over 6 months for the Mini to be available through USA retailers! The REAL firmware upgrade we need is for users to be able to ADD games directly to the games CAROUSEL, and remove the ones they do not want, not use a thumbdrive. Just sayin'

I need this. .. I have c64s and Amiga 500s at home. I have emulated them on PC. But this looks amazing. I'm worried with what little tech I know...that I'm afraid my original computers will die. They are over 30 years old! They run ok still. But, anybody know when these old computers are a fire hazard or blow up? Lol.

Karnov definatly isnt showing off the graphics of a C64, that looks like a spectrum port because of the chunky colour overlays. Lazy coding.

You aren't expert player. If you want to play Mario Bros with Joystick, you have to push on keyboard(not Joystick) during game's choose, and now you will be able to play Mario Bros with your joystick. This is only for a few games. Other games you have to simply push on joystick when you choose a game ( not keyboard).
