Sir , you are truly a wonderful gentleman, even though you are running a business in the same field, you take time to make videos to share your knowledge, free of charge, to humanity. God bless you and thank you sir.

Just purchased a townhome with recessed lighting. I wasn’t sure what to do to improve the lights. Now I know. Thank you!

Best video - I had to watch about 8 until I found this one, but in replacing from an old retrofit can the OLD unit the bracket was attached to the torsion spring and so I was not sure I could attach the socket adapter without a bracket - but your video looks like you can, so thank you !!

Thanks to you we were able to install our LED retrofit kit. Did not know about the ears, especially on an older can with so many holes.

Great video for those who may think this is difficult. Also Led’s give off much less heat than the incandescent lights. Great investment with huge returns in a short period of time. Keep up the good work with your A/C videos as well you have taught me a bunch over the last year.

Thank you for showing the ears! I have had a recessed light hanging from my ceiling (or alternately stuck with commando strips) because I could not figure out how to attached the springs after I changed the light bulb.

I too had this issue when I started retrofitting. I'd originally watch other videos retrofitting prior to purchasing LEDs but none showed this tip.

Can you recommend the same type of lights in this video but a different brand name? I am having a hard time finding the Topaz brand. I live in California. Thank you

I have about 6 recessed lights with flood bulbs in one side of my finished basement. The flood bulbs take a couple minutes to get to maximum brightness so j have wanted to exchange them with flush mounted led halo lights or whatever brand is the best. I like the way they are at full brightness right away and look flush to the sheetrick ceiling. Any suggestions on installing, product, what type of light spectrum to use with short 6' 6" ceilings? Thanks.

These retrofit kits require you to screw the retrofit kit "pigtail" into the existing old can light socket. Word of caution: If the existing can light socket is rusted or malfunctioning, then you new retrofit LED lighting will have the same flickering or malfunctioning problem. What you should consider doing is removing the entire can light and it's transformer box, and installing a totally new low profile LED ceiling light fixture which is not discussed in this video.

I'm watching these videos because of this exact reason. 3/5 of our 25 year old fixtures have stopped working and I'm hoping to see how much wire length I have to play with to do this but everyone is doing it this way.

Also important to note that leaky supply ducts will also increase air infiltration from the attic through can lights. Seal em up boys!

I just replaced all of mine and after two I checked to see if they worked and they did. Installed the other 4 and now none of them turn on. Not sure what I did wrong

I did this at my brother’s house because the existing can lights were tripping the internal overheat protectors. The new conversion kits also trip them. Any ideas on how to fix this?
@Corasin Жыл бұрын
You'll need to remove the whole fixture. I'm in the same boat trying to find videos of people installing new fixtures. I've found some of these lights that have a new junction box instead. I found a different video saying that the led lights are supposed to have airflow on the backs so they don't overheat. The right way to do this is with a new junction box for the lights instead of piggy backing off the old one.

Probably a stupid question but I have to ask. I purchased the dimmable version. Do I need to have a dimmer switch installed. Will the "dimmable" lights work without a dimmer switch?
@bluecollarmillionaire4life3 жыл бұрын
Yes
@zh853 жыл бұрын
You need a dimmer switch to dim the lights down. Light is just compatible with dimming function. Just a suggestion, get the wifi dimmer switch from menards. you can turn on and off your lights with your phone or alexa.
@amya343 жыл бұрын
@@zh85 I did buy a WeMo dimmer switch. Because there is another switch right next to it. It is the switch for the light on the stairs. According to the instructions. The Wemo switch should not be installed.

Only thing is that 50k hour rating is on the LED unit itself, the drive electronics is the thing I find fails first, leaving you having to replace an entire fitting because you do not find the driver electronics available off the shelf as a spare part, though you can buy them from China, like the original assembler did, and wait a while for it to hopefully arrive, and hopefully be the right one as well.

So why not simply install led bulbs ?
@bacard100 Жыл бұрын
You could but it would look bad. The bigger bulbs hide the trim. The smaller led bulbs won't hide it. Do the retrofit
