Thanks for this. I got the kits seperately and looks like I'll need to do some drilling to make some new holes! There are so few vids online for this so I really appreciate you taking the time to make this vid.

I tried swapping the switches but the PCB doesn't seem to have pins holes for the switch. Is the PCB not compatible or something? (I have akko matcha greens).
@shrmy3 жыл бұрын
is the pcb an SK64 or GK64? the GK64 pcb should definitely be able to accept the matcha greens. the SK on the other hand uses optical switches which doesn't have pins on the switches at all. if you try using mechanical switches (like your matcha greens) they wont work on an SK pcb but they will work on a GK pcb.

If II were able to use a gh60 wood case and gk61 pcb and gh0 plate wood that work?
@dabeasthalofan62763 жыл бұрын
Where’d you get the rubber risers on the bottom of the bamboo case?
@shrmy3 жыл бұрын
the flat ones are included with the case from KBD fans but the metal ones i added on were from amazon, i just searched for "Keyboard feet" though i would be careful because the ones i got had pretty short screws so i had to drill really deep to make them work on my case

So plate is not attached to pcb? How do you keep it in place? I have the same issue with a gk61 trying to fit in gh60 stuff
@shrmy3 жыл бұрын
to put it in a gh60 case i used a drill bit and drilled into the plate (refer to 2:33 for better explanation) but if you dont have a drill you can order a new plate for about $20, this option costs a little more but you can choose whatever plate material you want which i think makes it worth it :)

How did you mount the screw in stabs if the pcb doesnt support screw in? I have durock screw in and a sk64 and it didnt work so I just used the stock ones and Im kinda mad about it.
@shrmy3 жыл бұрын
i didn’t use screw in stabs for this one, the pcb for the gk/sk boards don’t support them, i used plate mounted everglide pandas, they’re great stabs for pretty cheap, but honestly if u clip the feet on the stock stabs and lube them up, maybe even holee mod them it’ll sound great!

Was not mounting the spacebar on optional? and was using the Orings optional too? i’m building a similar build and it’ll be my first build :)
@shrmy3 жыл бұрын
good luck with your first build! also the gk64x plate has a removable spacebar insert because you can swap in another one to have a split spacebar. if you were to use a different plate it wouldn’t have that. also the reason we couldn’t mount it was because the new case didn’t have standoffs to mount it to. the o rings are completely optional but i personally like the way it makes the keyboard sound, it’s like a cheap way to gasket mount your keyboard :) if you want i’d be more than happy to send you some links to plates that’ll allow you to skip the drilling/spacebar issue!
@kass77793 жыл бұрын
@@shrmy Yes that would be awesome! i’ve had a hard time finding plates that’ll work!

so is drilling the plate more of an optional choice for convenience? im still torn between ordering a rk61 or gk61 since i REALLY want that wood casing. but im not really sure about which models are compatible with the wood cases i see online, thank u if youre reading this! hope to hear some advice. i am mostly new into this mechanical keyboard thing. hoping my first build doesnt run into much issues and is budget friendly :)
@shrmy3 жыл бұрын
drilling is just optional, you can buy another plate and just toss ur old one for an additional $20-$30. also lots of PCBs will fit inside of the wood case that kbdfans offers, this particular keyboard is using the gk64 pcb which only cost me about $60 and it comes with a case, pcb plate, and some cheap stabilizers. hope this helps! :)

O-rings make key presses feel super mushy, and doesn't really imrpove the sound whatsoever
@shrmy3 жыл бұрын
the o ring mod i’m referring to in this video is a different method, it’s basically a way of gasket mounting a tray mount keyboard, instead of putting o rings in the keycaps you put them on the standoffs for the pcb. :)

Honestly they should just remove the spacebar module thing from the gk61 it such a pain for this mods I o ring mount my gk and the spacebar module is lower. Any idea how to fix that? Btw nice tutorial and the vid was well edited u chill due also :)
@shrmy3 жыл бұрын
hey thanks so much for the kind words! you can totally fix the spacebar issue, the standoffs for it are shaped so a small socket can be used on it, cant remember exactly the size, but keybored says 6-7 full turns worked for him so a little trial and error but you can totally fix it :)
