Great video. I notice a clip actually broke while you where taking it apart. Another KZbin warned about this. He said do the top near the battery first and then slide it down. But do not try to pry it from the bottom.

Excellent demo, thanks. This worked really well and was super helpful. Just a note if you never did this before: The screws at the back of the laptop don't come/fall out (not with mine anyway), they just stay in the back cover loosened. You also don't need to go back into the BIOS after installing and reinserting the battery to enable it again. This is automatically re-enabled when you start up the laptop and it's connected to power.

Great video - this worked out for me. Now I have 32GB of RAM in my Thinkpad. Well, a bit exaggerated, but okay. The plastic clips suck, one broke off in my laptop and got in the way on re-installing the bottom cover. But I managed to remove it completely… not perfect, but good enough.

Hey bro! I would really appreciate a subscribe too! And with RAM I would stick to the major manufacturers. In this video I installed Kingston ram, other good brands are Corsair, Crucial, PNY, Patriot, G-SKILL… as with anything just check reviews of the ones you are looking at before buying!

Good question, I’m not sure it supports 3200Mhz I don’t have the exact model I installed as I did the install for a family member, but let me check

Seems like it downclocks to 2400, it’s probably easier to get your hands on 3200 and it should work just fine, I didn’t have to do anything, it down clocks it automatically

Too bad we can't see how fast Windows would start up after the upgrade. For the rest, thumbs up! I am upgrading to my T470 from 8 to 16 GB. After a week I can say, that performance was already good, and did not improve much. I have dual channel for my ram now, so it works optimal and that's fine for now.

You will only find a difference in performance if you were to compare many programs open at once with 8gb vs 16gb. The more ram the more stuff you can have open at once without slowing down!

I believe it should work! I have done the same in an old MacBook Pro before and had no issues. You get better performance using a matched kit of RAM but it shouldn’t be very noticeable.

I believe you can use up to 32GB of memory speed I used was 3200mhz and you can use an Nvme drive. You can even get a larger drive than 512 if you would like. NVMe will give you the best drive performance!

Hmm good question I’m pretty sure this laptop supports a max of 32. As for the battery, if you need more ram then you are probably doing more intensive work which in turn would make the battery drain faster.

Most laptops (if not all modern ones) have processors soldered to the main board. This means that in order to upgrade the cpu you would more than likely need an entire new motherboard (which is not cost effective). Ram and Storage are the main upgrades available on laptops (some laptops even have these components integrated with the motherboard also like apple)

There are many types of brands! Some good ones that come to mind are Kingston, Corsair, crucial, intel, OWC. In terms of what to get that will depend on what you currently have, you can probably do a total of 32GB max

I currently have a Kingston 8GB and Timetec 8GB RAM sticks in my T480 20L6. I recorded all of the stats while testing RAM in SiSandra. I then installed brand new Crucial Vengence 2 x 16GB Ram Sticks 2666MHz 18 CAS. These sticks were also tested in SiSandra, and I was surprised to see the results were WORSE than the 2 x 8GB RAM. I have tried another set of Timetec 2 X 16 GB ram sticks- same results = WORSE than current mismatched 2 X 8GB ram sticks. WHY. Also, the clock speed of the T480 is locked at 100MHz with a 17x multiplier. But its locked. So will 2 x 16GB ram sticks actually increase speed of this computer? Or does the locked base clock keep speeds contained, even though it can technically take 32GB max? It just didn't seem to show any improved performance with 32GB installed. My VM's performance not improved with 2 x 16 GB ram vs 2 x 8GB sticks. Who has thoughts on this?
