Hi David, thanks for posting this, as you do every year. I`ve just run through this video once and to me it sounds like Adobe are makeing things more, not less complicated. Maybe it will make more sense once I watch the video a 2nd time. It always frightens me every October when we have to upgrade our catalogues, but thanks to your great instructional videos each year, I`ve always managaed to upgrade without any problems. Anyway I`ll run the video again in the morning and hopefully it will all just click for an old guy like me! LOL Anyway cheers David and thanks for your help.

Good Morning Steve Jarvis. I think that this year's upgrade process is a bit easier than the past. It is definitely an easier process if you are content with the current name for your Adobe Lightroom Classic Catalog. Unlike in previous years, this time Classic does not force you to change anything there.

@@FocusPhotoSchool OK David. I think I`ll back up my catalogue and helper files and then rename my catalogue to 14, just to be ready for future years and 15/16 as you mention in your video. Thank you.

Thanks, David. I was confused when Lightroom didn't rename my catalog. Your overview provides a reassuring guide to this upgrade process!

What a great and precise video. Thank you for that. So I just upgraded to v14 and it went super easy. I did not change the catalog name yet because my blood pressure was just coming down after the upgrade lol. I upgraded from v12 and I notice that in my catalog preferences that the old v12 catalog still shows up above my new one. Should I go into the files, wherever that may be located, and erase version 12 or just leave it alone and make sure that I never select it for any reason? Also, if I rename my new catalog to v14 instead of v12, do I have to delete the LRC icon that I have pinned down to the dock? Is this icon what you’re saying in your video that will have to be deleted and then a new one made or was your shortcut one that you made and had on your desktop? Thank you again.

Thank you for the kind words on this tutorial. These are challenging questions to answer without seeing into your computer. I believe that the advice below is correct but I could be wrong. First, if you into the General Tab in Lightroom Classic's Catalog Settings Panel then it should show you the name and the path to your current Catalog. Please do not delete any of Classic's files that use this exact name. But anything else, ex. Catlaog-v11.lrcat, can go. As far as icons in your dock go there is a difference between the Lightroom Classic Application and an Alias. If you use an Alias, and if you change the name of your Catalog, then you need to delete the old one and replace it. I don't think that this is your scenario so what I think you are seeing in the dock is an icon (a link) to the actual application. If that is true then you do not need to replace it and clicking on it should launch Lightroom Classic v.14. I hope that these guesses help but please back everything up before you make any major changes just in case I am dishing out crappy advice.

Hello, I have Lightroom 6, would you have a video to show steps to upgrade LR classic from LR6? Thanks John

This video applies to the Lightroom 6 to Lightroom Classic v14 process too. The only difference is that you will need to create an Adobe account and pay them for an annual subscription before you can start to use the most recent version of Lightroom Classic.

I believe that this is a bug. I have not experienced this problem (yet) myself but there are reports from others of similar problems over on the customer support page at adobe.com
