oh my! I now do see my Lightroom cloud storage going up forcing me to buy more storage!

Use LRC for your main storage and just use LR (Cloud) as a ‘transfer’ mechanism and to store your best images that you want to access from all devices. Cheaper than buying lots of additional Adobe Cloud storage space.
