How to UPGRADE your laptop screen!!

You are lucky mate that your Video screen Flex cable it's EDP 1 and EDP 2, some laptops are only using EDP 1 and in that case you are not able to use a 1080p screen for upgrade :( cause 1080p screens needs 2 lanes (EDP 2). A good way to know if your laptop video screen flex cable is EDP 2 if it is your laptop model has more versions like let's say Hp bla bla 500 and you look for your model and put 1080p in google and there are one or two versions of your laptop with better specs and maybe more expensive than yours your video flex could be EDP 2 :) cause the version of the model you have it was cheaper and only with a 1366x768 screen. There are many cases that you can buy an IPS 1080p screen and won't turn on in the laptop :( Just a tip just in case. If I check your screen model AUO B140XTN07.7 it's EDP 1.2 and the other one N140HCG-GQ2 it's EDP 2! Thanks for the video! It was very useful!

Ah that's a good thing to highlight. I do know that this laptop works with 1080p because it does come with a 1080p version. Maybe that's a sign that the laptop comes with EDP 2?

@@r_majka I got my screen from Amazon for the return policy incase there were any issues. Most laptops just require you to peel off the bezel around the screen. Some heat helps to loosen up the glue and remove it. There are a lot of videos on removing different screens to get down how to replace the panel.

How was your laptop's performance after upgrading your screen? Do you use it for gaming? Idk if I'm being paranoid, but I'm worried upgrading my screen could possibly put too much strain on my system and cause lag while gaming. Which would kind of defeat the purpose of upgrading in the first place imo.

you have no idea how long i've been searching for this kind of video. i bought the same laptop last year and was really disappointed with the screen and have been searching on panelook for an upgrade and found the BOE NV140FHM-N66. havent done anything yet since i have zero confidence with it and dont want to end up with it being incompatible

You should look on Google what to look for when upgrading your screen. Like edp connection, how many ports etc. Research as much as possible until you're 100% confident to replace your screen with full compatibility in theory. Practicality is anltber story ofc

I have the exact same laptop and I can confirm the screen is pretty bad. But the good thing about low resolution screens is, you can actually play games on it since the GPU doesn't have to push as many pixels on it. I managed to play Ace Combat 7 on it at low settings and it's playable at that low resolution. Now I'm split between having a better screen and being able to do light gaming on the laptop..:)

Last year I got a lenovo legion slim 5 gaming laptop with the standard 1920x1200 ips panel. It looks great but i noticed there was a QHD panel that I couldn't afford. Now nearly a year later, I am wondering if i can sneakily buy a lenovo legion slim 5 "replacement" QHD screen panel and swap it out with my current (healthy otherwise) panel for a resolution upgrade. is it possible to add a lock to a display that doesnt already have one? my laptop uses face up and down slugs (on the hinges) to hold the display in place but there are only 2 display options available to me in that configuration and their specs are insanely poor.

@@PiterparkerYT i found some brackets !! just search up the screen size you need on google. i searched up “lcd display 15.6” brackets” and found a couple listings on ebay and aliexpress. just make sure the screw hole placements are correct for your laptop. ordered the display from lpscreen but havent bought the bracket yet because i forgot! ty for remindin me

@@PiterparkerYT hey so i bought some display brackets and while they work great, i highly recommend being very careful when installing them. they both came with sticky tape on the back to adhere to the display but one bracket was not flush with the display so i attempted to lift it off to reposition it and the side of the bracket was so sharp it sliced my fingers as i slid them under it to release the tape. it was kinda like a paper cut. after cleanin my fingers and puttin some bandaids on i attempted it again and was able to get everything installed but ya. just be very careful if you do decide to get brackets! i just searched up "laptop display brackets 15.6" and went to images. bought one off ebay! also bought my display from lpscreen as i wanted a bit more reassurance in case something went wrong but i couldnt have had a better experience!

Having learnt from your video, I just tried to upgrade my old Samsung notebook NP270e5g 15.6’’ screen, from its orginal panel Chimei Innolux model to its higher resolution one Existing panel Chimei Innolux model N156BGE-L11 Resolution 1366*768 / LDVS Newly installed Chimei Innolux model N156HGE-L11 Resolution 1920*1080 / LDVS After replacement, the screen merely switched ON and nothing displayed throughout a) Please have your professional advice. b) This panel supplier informed the high resolution cable is required. I wonder this only apply to eDP panel. Not these LDVS panels before and after, please advise.

i have a s145 the laptop is POWERFUL to run anything i want with no struggles, however for whatever reason the screen IS HORRIBLE jeez (AND ITS TECHNICALLY THE UPGRADED MODEL) i have a 1080p, there are even worse versions going at 720p.... i intentionally bought the better model, yet the screen still sucks hard... hopefully i can upgrade to a 4k with srgb and hdr...

Ok. How did you get old controller (on motherboard) to match new screen timings? If i set wrong timings on my display controller, this Samsung 40-inch screen shows nothing but diagonal lines.😂 Most display controller OEMs do not connect write-enable pin. They flash firmware to chips before soldering them in place. With a little poking, i got the logo branding off an Acer screen. Trick was getting a clean firmware dump. Note: They didn't make it easy.😁 Oh, lightly wetsand glue frost off, and hit it with a black marker. You won't see it as much. Otherwise, great job.👍
