OMG thank you! I just bought a neat cheap laptop for Black Friday with a Ryzen 3 CPU. Everything about it is absolutely fine and it was just $199! But the panel is awful! It has massive blacklight bleed, and because of the panel, it's a glowy hazy mess that gets amplified by the absolutely terrible viewing angles, like you have to angle it and sit absolute perfect to get an "okay" contrast & color. It ruins even the basic experience. I was going to return it but now I'm going to try to IPS mod it.

This is a very good guide thanks. Idk why they still sell 3080Ti laptops with inferior 1080p screens or anything less than 4k for that card. Hence why we need to do things like this.

Most laptop hardware matchups don't really make sense. I'd expect at least a 1440p display for that GPU
@TheMsdos25 Жыл бұрын
Because super high Rez screens on most laptops are complete overkill and waste battery life. You won't be able to see the pixels on a 13, 14, or even 15 inch laptop from a normal viewing distance and increasing the PPI higher just means you have to turn on upscaling to actually use your OS. The money they'd spend installing 4k screens on gaming laptops is better spent on higher refresh rates and better response times that will actually improve the gaming experience. Maybe 1440p on a 17+ inch screen would make sense but even then most gamers probably don't feel like paying hundreds extra for it.
@sategllib219111 ай бұрын
1440p on 15.6 inch would be perfectly fine. 17 Would probably be barely noticeable as well

im pretty sure that if you have stock 1366x768 monitor in your old laptop then u got lvds single channel cable connection with your mainboard, so u wont be able to have bigger resolution, u need dual channel lvds cable then to go above that and thats impossible in most cases
@FlaminFuel2 жыл бұрын
The other interesting application for this is once you have the input of the display you can get a HDMI decoder for the correct resolution and display connection, and repurpose an old display into a monitor. I have an old Latitude E5430 with a dead motherboard, I've already pirated the hard drive for my PC and am hoping to convert the display into a monitor for a portable gaming rig. Just mount the display assembly and decoder to your PC case and plug it all in, or mount them to a box and put a powerboard in, then slot in and strap down your desired console, plug it all in, and you have a portable gaming setup. I know you can buy a box with a display for this, but they're worth a couple hundred dollars and if you have a display already, you might as well use it. On the downside, thanks to the dead motherboard I can't use system information tools. I've used the owners manual, panelook, and some replacement parts websites to get as much information as I can on the display, but I'm still not sure on it's fixation. I'll need to do some more investigating to confirm before I buy a decoder.

Glad you found the video useful. In this case, there is a chance that the laptop itself may not have two channels, and if so, then you're limited to 1366x768 and cannot use a 1080p panel, but I took an educated guess with mine, as I saw similar models to mine with a 1080p panel, and it worked.

@@TechRodent was able to get the part number. But tgere is not a worth of an upgrade. My panel is a 1366x740 and the next upgrade is 1600x900 Dont know if it is worth to update it.

It's the exact same laptop, the before and afters can be seen in the intro, the post install and the outro. It's a pretty easy mod, one that you can try yourself if you're interested 👌

hello, @tech rodent...….the search result on Panelook of my screen name is endless...….. some options say 40 pins, some say 30...some say LVDS and some say EDP...…..how am I supposed to know what my screen specifications are exactly?

You have to use the exact model number of your screen, it should only return you one result.

On the HP 246 G6 it does not show this second name field (from manufacturer) 🥲
