The absence of this after-purchase feature was a big complaint of most of youtube reviewers at the time of launch, I wonder why didn't apple took this route from the start. The only downside I see from this ( Apart from the price ) is the leftover SSD , is there a way to format it ? I've hear its the same drive as the iMac pro.

The thing is, we already knew this was coming, just like the wheels option. Because before the release of the Mac Pro, there was a Mac Pro page with some information and at the bottom of the page were some options, including a wheel package and ssd. I think those were two things that they took out of the list. Not sure why though. My guess is that they needed to figure out some things, or just because of the upfront cost that people would make. But in any way, i'm happy to see that this is now finally possible :-)

The marrying between the T2 and the boot SSD is only slightly advanced than a Saab. I bought a Saab slightly before 9/11/01. If you had a 6 CD changer in the trunk, the dealer would have to divorce and marry the unit to move it between cars. Lose all the key fobs, replace the $1500 security system that had no backdoor! I wonder if the configurator running on a Catalina installed Mac is like making the MP drive available in target mode.

If I ever buy a Mac Pro, it will be a rack mount. I can't see myself removing the cables every time I open the case. @AppleInsider4 жыл бұрын
Lots of questions! First, yes -- you need another Mac. Can likely do so at an Apple Store if need be. Second, yes only two slots and you use them both with this kit. Third, no. By default, there are no SSD or HDD drive bays that you can use. Apple leaves it open and up to users to decide what goes on the inside. There is a SATA connector and several third-party housings that add internal drive bays to the Mac Pro including the Pegasus 2Ji that we showed in the video and reviewed on its own before.

Michael Pedersen that’s not accurate. The base Mac Pro isn’t useful for any enterprise use. It’s underpowered I’m every way and can’t do anything a $800 PC can’t do. No high end business would want to spend $400 replacing a $150 drive. No high end business would want their computer to be useless for weeks if a part failed and they had to wait for Apple to order a new one. Furthermore if an encrypted drive fails in a PC a user wouldn’t need another PC to install a new drive that costs four times more than it should.

I really wonder about Apple's corporate credibility. From the beginning of this century I have only owned Apple computers, and then iPhones. I purchased my first Mac Pro 2013 "trash can" around 2014. In 2018 a Mac Pro 2013 number two replaced the first faulty computer, and this machine itself has never stopped giving me problems. Moreover, when technical issues have arisen pertaining to either Mac Pro 2013, I've found Apple's phone support all but useless. Routinely, Apple's telephone support shuttle customers to call centres anywhere in the English-as-second-language-speaking world; and this experience has had me question the corporate accountability of this company. Not having learnt my lesson (I'm too old to change over to Windows based products), I have ordered a Mac Pro 2019. The best that may be said about the Mac Pro 2019 is that it is configurable, and isn't limited by the dreadful cooling system that plagued the Mac Pro 2013, and that Apple were forced to admit to in 2017.
